Is there any news about MSI releasing a laptop with hd6970m ?

For some reason, most new laptops from MSI mainly use 5xx series

Or is it even possible to replace 5870m with 6970m for GX660/r ?

    No and no.

MSI doesn't do high-end gaming (at least nowadays).

    That is not true.

MSI just shifted more to Nvidia side with their newest GT680 notebooks

    Upper mid-range nVidia, not high-end.

Who cares what the chassis is like. All they are putting in it is a 460m and a 6870m, which is a downclocked 5870. Both of these are upper mid-range.

It seems like Asus and MSI both are going for more upper mid range than top end. I really wouldnt expect any of the highest end GPUs ( like the 6970/485 ) to be included by either manufacturer due to both price and heat constraints.

Also, the 5870m only had a TDP of 50-60 W.

Chassis means cooling. Everything other than the 480m and 6970 means about 75w TDP, technically the same on pretty much all their laptops, gx640, gx660, gx740 etc.
However, that doesn't mean the gx660 cooling wont be able to keep it under control, along with a 150-180w adapter we may see some users making that upgrade.
Personally I am getting a 470m for my gx640, hopefully it will works out well.

I guess I didnt make it clear, so msi dont do high end games in the ;latest releases, what I was saying is that there is no inclination favoring each brand.

I would like to see the fabled gx780 packing a 6970, although I wont hold my breath, aside that I like the more subdued design of the sager NP8150

The upcoming offers from MSI and Asus are both very disappointing. No advancement in the GPU performance since the 5870m.

This +1. VERY dissapointing. Also the new G74 from Asus looks like crap. Atleast the GT 780 look nice :)

Well theoretically you could buy a 6970m separately from dell, and then replace your 5870m they both use the same PCI-E slot obviously. The problem lies in the heat distribution, especially if you have a i7. I personally have a I5 and it gives me more head room for heat, I might even try this out depending on size of the 6970m don't wanna be modifying my chassis to fit this thing in...

Problem is that dell wont sell it to you unless you have a dell noteboook.

You would have to try get it from ebay or get the clevo version (when it's here).

No point upgrading anyway, games still aren't demanding more from the hardware,

Blame that on the ancient console club and our cheesy cheap porting system.

I'm still running a 4850 which is tearing nicely through releases.
