okay, from seaching around i have been able to find all the info i need except a few critical bits.

1, will any 12.7mm sata optical drive work in this (i want a blu-ray burner)?
2, is there a site to get the wuxga screen for this thing
3, is there a place where you can get a 4850 graphics card?

also will the q9200 work in this laptop? i think i can lay my hands on one

i tried seach function, and found little, mayhap i used the wrong term.

    thanks for any info!

indeed but no sign of a wuxga screen (big-e) blu-ray drive and cpu are next. can i just use a plain blu-ray sata drive 12.7mm? and use the dvd drive's bezel?

you can use a 12.7m blue-ray drive no problem. However, if you are unable to switch the dvd bezel, it might look funny.

If you can't find any windows 7-specific drivers, most vista drivers will work fine.

Sounds like we have the same goal, let me know if you have any luck with a screen. I am a photographer and "need" to utilize a larger rez screen for editing. A Blu-ray burner would save storage space on tons of DVDs :)
