I'm looking for a good rig for under a £1000. This is the i5 460m model. Which has great reviews and is around £900.

I've looked at the gt680 but at £1600, thats way to much.

Is it worth getting this older rig?

    Any help would be great.

Thats the one they had on Overclocker 3d right. i5 460m with the raid o and 1080p? To be honest, if your only going to be playing a few games, watching a few movies and skyping, then the i5 would be fine. But what type of work are you talking about?

Yes sorry, should of put the specs up,
    i5 460m (2.53 - 2.8)
    6gb ram
    ati 5870
    2 x 500gb hdd (raid 0)
    1080p

Using Sketch up a bit and writing documents, nothing to demanding. The only reason I haven't pulled the trigger on this one is because of the new sandy bridge models which are coming out. However like I said the gt680 is just to much a cost for me. Although the gx680 specs have just been released, I still think this is going to be out of my budget and a down grade on the gpu to a gt555? Maybe that where a saving is, but I still doubt its going to be less than £1000.

I really cant believe MSI is going backwards instead of forwards. I could see the 6870m in the GX680, but a 555m, come on. No where near the same performance. You'd be better off GPU wise to just get the 5870 model. It has everything you need except the new i5/i7. Which I want to get also, but I do really know if the performance upgrade is worth it with a lower GPU to go along with it. Maybe when the 560m is out and it is keeping pace with the 5870 it might be worth the upgrade. But until they use a GPU that is strong than the 5870, stock to stock clocks, I dont see the value in upgrading to a newer laptop just for a CPU. But to each there own.

I really don't think I need a quad core. The laptop will last me for a few years, however there's more stuff coming next month so I might just wait, I've got until June. I'll see what happens.
