So I have been scowering to find how to use the gtx980m in the gt780dxr... Ive seen people on gt780 thread say it can be done very simply but have been unable to find out how exactly. Can someone link a how to writeup or at least some pictures and what is required? The 570m heatsink does not seem to line up with everything that is required to be cooled let alone being too small to fully cover the main chip on the 980m.

Thanks for your help guys, been at this almost a week now.

Can I see a photo of the heat sink and the cards? I've done this upgrade on a GT60 so I should be familiar. Be warned my heatsink had to be modified with a dremel to make it fit, at the same time it was quite easy.

you need also: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Phobya-1-5MM...895984?hash=item1c35b14bb0:g:9dwAAOxy1NxSDO0P to fill up the space between heatsink and PCB. and http://www.ebay.de/itm/Phobya-0-5MM...897310?hash=item1c35b150de:g:dpwAAOSwuMFUZ-GC for the memory chips.

here you see, how to modify the heatsink http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/the-official-msi-gt60-70-970m-980m-upgrade-thread.765058/

Don´t remove the CPU Bridge Heatsink (you call it "arm"). You need only to unscrew the C and D screw from the CPU Heatsink, the CPU Bridge from the GPU Heatsink fits on top of the CPU Heatsink, you can use the old screws to screw both together.

You can take this time to replace all the heatsink pads with 0.5mm thickness to maximuse cooling potential.

Meaker, are you recommending that I use thermal pads on the chips instead of paste?

Update guys. No matter what I do I cannot get my full load temps to say below 88c even wi th turbo fan on and then the GPU starts throttling. Thermal paste is good, thermal pads are good, Idle temps are around 55c without turbo fan on and down around 50 with turbo fan on. Does the GT60 have a different fan? Does anyone have any insight into why heat is such a problem?

    Thanks
