Anyone got any news about the upcoming release?

The spec is on MSI's website (looks pretty awsome) but it doesn't state the release date or possible price. Any ideas??

    Cheers

I think I seen it priced at $1400.00, the barebone model starts at $852.00.

Really, well well, that's good news.

I would have thought it would be more expensive than the 725 and 729.

That's very cheap for such a system!!

it's because the gpu is a downgrade. It's not bad, but just isn't as powerful as the 160m or ati 4850.

Really? There's not much between the 4850 and the GTS 250M is there?

the gts250 uses a 128bit memory bus width, while other high end cards use 256bit. Double!

This wouldn't be a problem if they've used a GDDR5 (250M has a GDDR5 mem controller) memory, which basicaly gives a quad data rate. That would produce pretty much the same bandwidth as the card would have with 256bit memory interface. But they used GDDR3, so there's a huge bottleneck. If you're interested with a GT740 benchmark, have a look at my review at one of the biggest IT portals in poland.

My GX720 spanks the GT740 in most of them benchmarks. That is so sad that MSI used the GDDR3 version. They should of used a GTX 280m or a 4870 GDDR5 version.

    You're welcome :)

The GTS250M could have been a nice card seriously. 40nm, DX10.1 and stuff. 96 shaders is a nice improvement over the 64 which the 9800M GS had. The card runs pretty cool, and doesn't need much power. But thanks to low memory bandwidth, it can be easily outperformed by the 9800M, which is quite ridiculous. Seriously, if they only used GDDR5...

you can swap it out, but unfortunately the pcie slot will most likely be power-limited just like all other gaming msi laptops (60 watts), which means 9800m/160 gts and ati 4850 is the best you will get to work.

I disagree, the 160m gts (especially when oc) and the ati 4850 are much better. Not worth upgrading to from the 250m, but nonetheless they are better :D

    >.> your assuming they are still using the old mxm standard, as far as we know at this point all the new nvidia gpu's use mxm A or B slots.

it's mxm 2.1, you're giving msi too much credit. If MSI somehow grew a brain cell and decided to use mxm 3 slots, then I would actually consider getting a barebone and just purchasing a 280m or 4870 from dell (they use standard mxm 3 slots for the mx17). But I can guarantee it's not mxm 3.
