Does anyone know what thermal paste they use for the new gt70 dominator? Thinking of reapplying it if the stock one is bad. Also, does anyone know if ic diamond is good to use? Heard that it is harsh on the plates.

Ic diamond is fine if you are gentle removing it. Stock is mx-2 like paste.

Is the mx2 a good thermal paste?

I see. Where I'm from the only pastes I can find are the ic diamond and mx-4. Heard that the ic dia scratches the plates? I don't know what the implications are for scratched plates so I dont really understand its downside. Care to explain?

I personally go for Arctic Silver 5 since it's easy to use for my preferred method of application. IC Diamond is more like apply and forget. Mess it up and it's a pain to remove. I scratched my CPU plate because of it since I messed up application process with my shaky hands. Since you have the option between mx-4 and IC, you can decide which one to take dependant on your application preference.

Only thing you have to watch with AC5 is it's long curing time, slightly lower performance and being capacitive getting it in the wrong place can cause damage.

The MX-2 that MSI uses/used on the gaming series chips is a quality TC but I always found it to be excessively applied at the factory.

A quality TC properly applied is only needed to replace the air in the pores of the metal, machining marks and uneven surfaces.

Air is a poor conductor of heat.

The more metal to metal contact between the chip and heatsink the better the heat transfer will be.

I use the surface spread method for all my pasting.

I find little to no difference in temperatures between brands when the quality paste is properly applied after the old paste has been completely removed with a commercial product or 99%~100% isopropyl alcohol.

    Don't use 70% to 80% rubbing alcohol.

I see, so in this case more isn't better :p

So what exactly happens when youget scratches on your plates? Does it lessen the performance?

Not really in any measurable way when it's from micronised diamond.

Pretty much, though residue can be removed with some rubbing alcohol or thermal paste cleaning fluid and scratching can be avoided if you are careful removing it.

They will come off very easily with WD40. Simply spray some onto paper towel then wipe the surface with it.
IC diamond is the best to use but it is also very expensive.

Yes, there are two bays if your notebook did not come with an SSD.
