    Hi

Is it possible to upgrade the graphic card in GT640?

If so, what card/s could realistically be suitable?

Thinking of upgrading to a 260 or even a 5850 if possible

Appreciate any useful advice you could throw my way

    thanks :D

If you get a new heatsink you can use the 5850 I think. Or every card that will fit in the mxm slot. But first you need the heatsink, because its not enough for these hotter cards.

This guy on ebay says and I quote "it worked very well, very fast"

    MSI MS-1656 W/ 8GB DDR3 15.4" WUXGA 5870M HDMI ETC WOW! - eBay (item 250797360814 end time Apr-07-11 13:56:43 PDT)

I think he is going to have a very unhappy buyer, he did not respond when I told him to check the temps

Scroll down and you will see the smaller heatsink. Scroll up again and you will see how much of the vram it is covering by the marks on the thermal pads.

The best card that will fit that heatsink is the ati 5730. Unless you can find some of the newer 540m or 455m cards and they are compatible

Cool, if a 5850 fits then the 260m should fit. Let me know.

It really doesn't fit. It will probably overheat.

No. The whole heatsink is diferent because the diferent architecture of the processor. And there is diference on the nvidia and ati cards as well. If you put an ati card in an nvidia based msi notebook you need to cut off a piece of copper from the nvidia heatsink.
