it´s plug and play. but you need also the kepler heatsink for the GTX880M.

The GPU shouldn't have a bracket only the holes the motherboard has the screw posts.

You must buy screws M2 or M2,5 as I remember, and have some caps to hold the screws with radiator.

Hello!! got a gt60 , installed an msi gtx 880m 8gb, installed drivers without problems, afterwards without restarting tried to access nvidia control panel and got
NVIDIA Settings are not available. You are not currently using a display attached to an NVIDIA gpu, then i uninstalled Intel HD drivers, restarted and i have now a black screen, help please!!

Edit 1 i am able to access bios, i get the black screen as soon i get into Windows, using unlocked bios btw
Edit 2 Had to remove GPU in order to use the laptop again, next thing im going to try is flashing the card with svl7 vbios, dont know what else could be done :(
Edit 3 forgot to mention i am using the ivy bridge model

Perhaps you will need to flash the VGA BIOS on the graphics card, have you done that already?

I suppose it doesn't work without Intel drivers as Optimus is channeling the signal from Nvidia via Intel to the output jacks (my GT70 0NE).

Where did you get the card from? Are you sure it's a MSI genuine video card? Does it show MS-1W0C1 on the card? See below.
If it's not MSI's original card then yes you will need to flash VBIOS as you've stated in Edit 2.

you probably need the latest BIOS/EC for your machine, and properly install intel HD drivers first, then install nvidia GPU drivers. you might need to install another type of vbios but I am not sure.

thanks for your response , the card i got is msi and is exactly like the one on your picture:
    DSC_0442__1466907331_190.219.180.180 (1).jpg

i have the gt60 unlocked bios that i got from tech inferno. at the time of testing the card i was using the intel drivers that i got from msi website and the latest nvidia drivers. is worth mentioning i downloaded latest nvidia drivers from their website and the installation did not gave me any error message but when it finished the screen resolution was like 240p , tried going into nvidia control panel and i got that strange message, afterwards i decided to uninstall intel drivers, then rebooted the machine and got the black screen,

Use the latest intel drivers from their webpage. I haven't tried using the GT60 without intel drivers. Are the unlocked BIOS the latest ones with correct support for the GPUs? I ask because I recently helped a friend upgrade his GT70 3rd gen to a 970m and I was experiencing errors similar to yours including not being able to fully boot to windows sometimes, and it was all corrected with the latest BIOS.

I saw another user having problems when using latest Nvidia drivers with old Intel drivers. Updating Intel did cure his problem.

yesterday i had some time to test a few things, still having the same problem, this is what i did :

flashed laptop with 30p bios no joy
flashed laptop with 70x bios no joy
flashed laptop with 50x bios no joy.

next thing im going to try is formating the os in uefi mode to see if that works. so far i have been trying with legacy mode , when changing settings to uefi mode os wont boot at all , im assuming is because it was formated in legacy mode.

edit: ordered a fully working haswell gt60 with a gtx 880m that hasnt arrived yet, as soon i get my hands on it will swap graphics cards to see what happens.

ok second gt60 arrived and i swapped cards , haswell gtx 880m worked fine on ivy bridge laptop, the other gtx 880m had the same issue with haswell laptop, so i flashed the card with the stock gt60 haswell vbios and problem solved , now i have two functional gt60's with gtx880m's i want to keep the haswell machine since it is 4k and it has bluu-ray drive. as far as i know both can handle gtx 980m . also i realized haswell laptop has two thick thermal pads glued to the motherboard for cooling the gpu bottom side , the gtx 880m that i got separately came from a gt72 laptop, maybe that particular vbios is not compatible with the gt60.

    EDIT: GT60 onc SOLD
