I'm not sure, but I think the picture on the Amazon page is actually the 1651 (the barebones version of the GX620 - pictures here). To the best of my knowledge all the 620's have the "aerodynamic media bar", or whatever MSI calls the area above the keyboard. Sorry that you got the look you didn't want, but hopefully you'll still be happy with it.

Amazon has pictures of both versions. The first picture shows the silver that matches the gx620 model. Send it back if you don't like it, should have double checked before buying.

Well if that's the case then they should delete the other version since its not the right one....

piece of cake take out the battery and look inside where it was sitting you will see three small tabs very carefully push those upwards and very gently pull the piece up from the top side starting at one corner and keep going along the kayboard, wish you were closer i could swap them in under 2 minutes lol..

the one you got was from the gx620 the one you want is actually from the 1651 model

I found those 3 little clips. It does look like it would be easy to remove. So you just pop the clips then pull up from the corner and work you way down the length of the media pad? If that's the case I'd love to trade.

start at one corner. then pop the out most corner up then slowly slide your finger under the panel going across the keyboard from one side to the other it takes a min to realize exactly how to pop them up but once you do its really easy.i usually make sure the screen is as far back as it can go also that help the hinge cover parts come up easier. all you need to push those tabs up for is to get your finger nail or something under the strip. dont use any tools on it though as they will for sure nick the edges up. i also know just fyi msi sells the flat black one for like 10-15$ they quoted me. so even if you decide to buy one then keep your original. remember if you have a issue and need warranty that is the only thing where you may run into a problem if they see you swapped out parts. mine doesnt have a warranty on it anymore, its still brand new but it sat in the closet for a long time and i changed out all the stuff on it and broke the warranty seals on the bottom since i swapped the cpu and stuff

One thing that is a big downer is the back light bleed on the bottom. Its about 1/2 inch from left to right all the way across the screen. I wonder if I should RMA this one and try another one. Are Gx 620's all like this pretty much?

I got the 1280x800 screen. Also the keyboard flexes alot is that normal? I really wish I could get that touch controls taken out. I tried last night but it totally feels like something is going to snap. Can you order that part from MSI or some place?

I've noticed that mine has a lot of flex around the cursor keys and the 0 on the numpad if I have it on my lap. If it's on a solid surface, and the front right corner is supported it's fine, but when that corner is hanging in air, the flex is bad enough that there is an audible thunk when the keyboard pops back up after I hit the down arrow.
Like zfactor said, I don't notice any light bleeding, but I have the wsxga, so maybe it's something about the wxga screen.

I'm trying to view a movie from netflixs online using my 42 inch HDTV. It plays fine, but the sound is bad. Its popping all over the place. I'm using an HDMI hookup as well with the nvidia 9600 GT. Any ideas what causes this?

imo the wxga is more prone to having bleeding issues from my past experiences than the wsxga is in most brands

Agreed, WXGA is horrible compared to the WSXGA and WUXGA. I never had any bleed with a WSXGA and WUXGA, only with the WXGA from MSI laptops.. If its that bad which 1/2 inch is, send it back..
