What's a good MSI laptop for gaming around $1250-1300
I'm currently looking at the Asus G51VX-X1A. For the same price does MSI have any models that are better or the same?

    MSI 1651 ID2
You can configure one that offers just about the same performance for your price range.

i think only M860ETU can be compared with G51VX..with GTX260M
it doesnt have GPU heating problems...but do have HDD overheating problems...
so either shorter gpu or hdd lifespan

Considering the size of the G51VX, you could also consider MSI GT729 which will be out in the next month. It weighs the same and is not considerably bigger. Despite what most people think it's Mobility 4850HD is a bit faster than the GTX 260M in some if not most situations.

Well it depends on the price, 17" is more expensive than 15", no?

Not neccesarily. The G71GX-RX05 is the same price as the G51VX-X1A but with a 17" Screen. Where's a good place to buy the 1651 ID2 from with lots of customizable options? Can a GTX 260m be put in it or a 4850?

I really like the MSI GT729. Anyone know when it's expected to come out? I can always pre-order it on xoticpc

Edit: On second thought it doesn't come with Vista 32-bit installed and I can't afford to upgrade to 64-bit. The G51 already has 64-bit on it. So I'm back to the 1651 ID2 I guess. If anyone can point me to a good place to get it from

You cannot really compare the BB 17" vs Retail 15". So many differences in specs and warranty.

I'm still leaning towards the G51. I would definitely go for the GT729 if it weren't for the 32-bit OS

I know you can order a Vista 64bit disc at Microsoft for 20$ with shipping. Will it work with a 32bit CDKEY?

From what I've read, no one has had any problem using the 32bit key with 64bit media.

Right, and if you order before Windows 7 comes out, you can use your upgrade to go to 64-bit without the hassle of finding Vista64 media.

Check out frosty's computers.com The dude's an old MSI guy and has connections for retailing. Probably a cousin. Pretty good prices on a 17" MSI gamer. Just be ready to be frustrated if you have issues cause they aint no fricking service. Sent mine back twice for heat issues and frequent crashes and they threw me around like a hot potato. Will not buy again. Picked mine up from IBUYPOWER and they totally threw me under the bus. At least the dude at Frostys went through the motions before bouncing me. Anyway, good prices and decent laptop if you need no backup. Good luck, The Rainman.
