Ge75 Backlight Screen Bleed - Is this normal!!

I just received my GE75 from HIDEvolution after waiting for long time, to found a very noticeable, annoying excessive backlight bleed in the screen specially at the lower middle of the screen, its very visible when playing games with dark scenes like Doom and Resident Evil, it like a flash light coming from the bottom of the screen. is this normal for you guys?, what I have is MSI GE75 8SG Raider-048 with RTX 2080. HIDEvolution said they selected the laptop with minimal bleed!! is this minimal.

That's not minimal to me, that's worse then my laptop's screen.

Are you using it in a full dark room? Looks bad, but if it's a full dark room, I guess it can also be somewhat expected. IPS-like panels have bleed o varying degrees. Some more than others, but its specially noticeable at dark rooms.

My GS75 also has lightbleed but I hardly use it on a dark room, so it has never bothered me. But it's also not that bad. My GT73 has a TN panel and is much better in that respect, however it is an inferior screen in colors, viewing angles and refresh rate, so I am okay with the trade off.

 

Keep in mind that when you take a picture with your phone, the backlight bleeding is magnified by 3-4 times minimum. It wouldn't be anywhere close to that in real life. Talking from personal experience.

Not saying that the OP does not have any backlight bleeding, I mean it can't be anywhere close to that if shown from a photo.

 

Yeah, I mean, when you use an absolute dark room, the camera sensors take in much more light and make light bleed even more terrible than it is.

 

I have to agree with this. I remember reading this post weeks ago and I was going to say that mine looks great to me, nothing like the picture. However as soon as I looked at the screen through my phone that shows up. It looks great looking directly at it, and only very minor bleed shows if you look a completely black screen, which I never do except maybe in loading screens lol.

 

The problem is, I examined that picture and if you compare it to Ultra Male's picture, the top areas look like basic regular IPS glow, and Ultra Male has a near perfect sample.
The problem is the bottom.
You can clearly see the "pinched" areas there and that simply does not look normal.

Phone exaggeration or not, I've seen many pictures over on the overclock.net threads of the IPS 144hz screens back when I used to read those threads often, and his image looks like among the worst samples I can remember comparing to the RMA pictures people posted there. I would not be commenting if I thought this was standard fare. That image at the bottom is not normal.

My Benq XL2720Z is a near perfect TN panel (literally one of the best samples I have ever seen, and it was lottery purchased directly from Benq way back) and even with camera overexposure, you can only barely tell a FAINT outline of light diffusion (looks basically identical to Ultra Male's picture besides there being no IPS glow). My MSI GT73 isn't as good as the near perfect XL2720Z, but it's good enough and the bottom bleed ring can only be noticed on pure black and has zero effect in use (so that can't be considered bleed at all); the MSI GT72VR I RMA'd had a near identical pattern so that was normal. You can tell the difference however in the OP's picture. There's definitely something off. Ignore the reflection in mine as it was taken during daytime obviously.

 

We feel this order and return for refund was fulfilled per generally acceptable standards within the industry, and HIDevolution policy.

@davaid decided to return the order for credit, and we advised him in writing that a restocking fee would be charged because a certain amount of LCD backlight bleed is normal and virtually unavoidable for most IPS-Level LCDs, so it is not grounds for DOA (defective on arrival) which would not incur any restocking fee.

Davaid did not select our “Minimize LCD Backlight Bleed” quality check and received his MSI GE75 8SG Raider-048 as it was delivered to us by the manufacturer. As others have stated in both threads Davaid created, the camera will always exaggerate Back Light Bleed. Once we received it back, we inspected it carefully and determined that without the Minimize LCD Back Light Bleed upgrade this screen is clearly within MSI standards for Back Light Bleed.

Davaid also did not select our HIPS (HIDevolution International Prepaid Shipping) service. We mistakenly thought he had and communicated such to him on June 28th but corrected that in our communication with him on July 1st. If HIPS service is purchased after the order is shipped there is a 60 days grace period before the customer can start to use the service. There is no grace period if HIPS service is paid in the original order.

While we regret the customer’s disappointment, we treated this case fairly as we would any other, and we think words like “cheated” and “blackmailed” do not describe this case accurately and are in fact very far from the truth.

 

Thats quite severe imo.

 

Dude, did you pay extra $100 for minimun screen bleed?
HIDEvolution got this option, if you dont pay, that mean that most of their stock have lots of screen bleeding, and for sure they gonna send you one of these.
