I'm going to copy and paste what I sent to the MSI support form. I'm going to ask here in case I can get a faster response from a fellow owner.

The problem I'm writing about here are the USB ports. Rather, their inability to properly support gaming mice. I bought a SteelSeries Diablo III mouse early this week and while the laptop detects it, it has this weird issue where it doesn't always detect movement or mouse clicks. It occasionally detects the movement/clicks, but it usually stalls after a couple of seconds then just refuses to work at all. It'll come back several minutes later, then stall again after a couple of seconds.

I know it's the laptop and not the mouse because I then tried to use the mouse on a couple of other PCs and it worked flawlessly. Even so, I returned it, deleted all the drivers and the SteelSeries program and bought a Razer Naga. The exact same thing happens with the new mouse. Uninstalling the mouse, driver and program makes no difference. Switching between the four various USB inputs makes no difference. I have tried all of the solutions on the SteelSeries FAQ page as well as various solutions offered on various message boards around the internet. I've tried closing apps and services upon bootup. I've tried going into power options and disabling USB selective suspend. The only solution I've seen work is one where someone mentioned going into msconfig and switching the boot processors to four. But this is laptop has an i7 with hyperthreading, so doing that effectively turns my quad-core laptop into a dual-core, and I don't want that.

I should also mention that so far, it only seems to occur with gaming mice. The SteelSeries and Razer mice are the only times I've seen it happen. My crappy generic Gateway mouse works fine, as do my cheap external speakers, XBOX 360 controller and my iPhone cord. I don't have a gaming headset or any other high performance peripherals to try it out with, but I do wonder if it's related to peripherals which require more power to use, or which have their own built-in processors, as both those mice do.

Is there anything I can do, preferably from home, to fix this issue? I'd rather not have to send in my laptop and be computer free while it gets fixed if I don't have to. Surely I can't be the only person who's encountered this problem as there are millions of gamers who game on laptops and use gaming mice since touchpads aren't adequate for most games.

Sorry about my sporadic stream of consciousness form of typing. I sort of just type things as they come to my head. ;p

And thanks in advance for reading, or any help you may give.

Well, not much help solving your problem, but I use both a Logitech 9x and a Razer Orochi without any issue at all, so can vouch it's not a design issue with the GT60. I can use either mouse perfectly in any of the USB ports, either the 2.0 or 3.0 ports.

Sounds like something wrong with your system. If a system restore back to factory default doesn't solve it, I can only assume it's a motherboard issue unfortunately.

Damn. I was afraid that'd be the case. MSI actually contacted me within minutes of submitting the support request, and their response was to RMA it. Looks like I'll be without a laptop for awhile then.

Thanks, be77solo. At the very least I know it's an issue with my specific unit and not the platform as a whole.

I've used a razer taipan and orochi without issue and they use 1000hz polling rates.
