Sometimes my GX740's screen turns black and there is simply no way to return except forcing it to shut down and restart. This usually happens when starting or quiting games. Does anyone know how to fix this?![]()

nope, I'm using 10.5 drivers, and I used 10.4 or .3 before, no prob. Your ATI settings at default, or did you tweak stuff?

Don't know, all I know is my 5870 hit 110c in furmark before I shut it off lol.
-
Hmmm wait for some of the 640ers look at this thread, it sounds like were back to pci bus speed issues!.
Try to avoid furmarking at 110C because odds are your memory is at 120C...
You could have knocked some big life time off that thing lol. -
I haven't had any of the GX640 issues and I havn't even updated any firmware or Bios's. I have been running my machine 24/7 pretty much since getting it. 0 issues.

i had no issues with mine even before i updated to 10.5 or undervolted the GPU and in stalled a stupidly crasy CPU
-
But still, that is really high, you should redo the thermal paste or the thermal pads.. that is wayyyy to high. -
Well, it's actually the memory controller and not the memory. However, I'm doubtful that the VRAM would be running hotter.
-
Hmmm, i hope thats true because with the 4850 running at 77C meant the memory/memory controller was cooking at 87C according to GPU-Z lol.

This has been happening to me as well...I am not sure what the problem is though...
This happens to me after windows loads and blacks out where "Welcome" should be. -
Happening to me too.
I set the laptop to do nothing when i close the lid so i can download in peace.
The screen turnof is set to 10 minutes.
When i do not close the lid, it comes back just fine but when i have closed the lid and come back after sometime it will not turn back on.
Not going to worry to much about it so i just leave the lid open as the display turns off anyway.
Just need to make sure its in a save place so nothing might hit the display.
Regards,
Jim
GX740 owners, does this also happen to yours?
