have recently been getting 'AMD Display driver stopped responding and has recovered' messages, along with blue screens of death..

...not good :(, has anyone else been getting this, and is there a fix, or is the card fried already?! it's idle temps are only 48-50 and 60-70 under load.. drivers all up2 date etc.

Strange, I was getting this message and BSoD when my temperatures were too high. Some 107 degrees :D Try as people said before to use different drivers and if that not fix it, then you might need to replace the thermal paste of the card with better one. If you're using the stock one, it's not good.

Do you have Java runtime installed? If so, get rid of it, and that should solve your problem.
