There are 3 small screws that are keeping CPU Heatsink in place.
I removed 2 of them without any trouble, but 3rd one
SCREW THREAD was poor quality, and screw was (i think) fitted to hard so i am unable to remove 3rd screw becouse ....you know I HAVE STRIPPED MY SCREW -WHY ME ?

Any clues what i can do to remove it ?

    I want my 920XM INSIDE FFS :/

Or... Put some 'super-sticky-glue' on the top of the screw, combine it with the screwdriver, then try.

    Hope this helps...

Try using a vice grip on the sides and get it out that way.

Hmm, something like in this pic:

    pliers.JPG

That's actually a CPU heatsink screw there as well, just as comparison. Something like this should work, there are also smaller pliers. Costs a couple of bucks in a store that sells tools.

I just bought 1mm drill bit, i'll drill a hole, small one, about 20-50% into the screw and i'll put stanley flat screwdirver in (very small as well, by using hammer gently - very gently ).

I'll perform this operation in 3hrs from now as i am waiting for the rest of the hardware needed.

Photo below, shows the size of the screw that i will be drilling in, 1mm drills X2 and stanley Flat screwdriver witch is 1.2-1.4mm (screw is about <2.5mm diameter).

I am doing this material for people that will find themeselves in same siuation (hopefully NOT!)

    Wish me luck.

I HATE YOU SCREW !!!! SOUR !!! HATING LIFE !!!

    140bclk x 18 = 2513 MHz

    TDP = 70
    TDC = 56

Yeah, they heat up. Don't know the cooling system of your notebook, can't say whether this is normal or not, but it seems ok for a 1024M test.

Anyway, for the settings... if you want to run the CPU at 24x (3.2GHz) on all cores while gaming, you'll need a TDP/TDC setting of about 85W/62A.

But you'll have to test it yourself. A common opinion is, that when you can run a 32M wprime 1.55 test on 8 threads with the multiplier staying at the set level (not dropping below 24 in this example) it should be fine for gaming. Watch your temps, I don'T know your system, these settings might be too agressive, I don't know.
During a 1024M test you're likely to see throttling witt these settings, but in a game you'll never see a 100% load all the time.

I also recommend reading the Throttlestop guide of unclewebb, there you'll find a lot of helpful information. You need to be careful with the TDP/TDC settings.

well, with same settings i was getting 97 at 30% of 1024M is TS. Is that with additional heatsinks attached anywhere on CPU heatpipe ?

I applied about 3-4mm long stripe of IC diamond 7carat across whole CPU DIE. Is that TOO MUCH then ?

Photo shows how much Exactly of IC Diamond 7 carat i have used.

Ey buddy, I really dont know how to apply IC Diamond. I used MX-4 for my CPU and I used a razor to spread it out.

About the temp, I´ve drilled about 70 small holes in the backcover to allow some airflow around the CPU etc. Saw someone else do it, so I did the same :)

Btw at 97c your cpu must be throttling?

Hey, like I said, forget the 1024M test, the CPU will throttle anyway without additional cooling. The load during this test compares to nothing you'll ever see in real life.

Now make some tests with higher multis like I explained and then play some games, keep an eye on your temps during the first game and you'll be fine.

Edit: And forget the BCLK adjustment, it only brings a lot of heat and makes the whole system less stable. Better raise your multi, that's why you have an extreme processor.

Does BCLK adjustment 133 -> 140 really increase the temp that much? Running 133 x 19 now and I see the same temp as 140x18 :)

Cpu is not throttling :( even at 97'C (propably it is waiting for 100 to SW OFF itself lol )

Idle temps are max 66 (jumping from 60 to 66 for 1 sec, then falling down to 60)

now i will test it on games.

Tommorow, i will go to the hardware store and buy 800.1000.1500.2000 Sand paper to make my heatsink look like a mirror. Scratch i showed before may affect the temps alot, in my case about 10'C - HATING LIFE !!!

After that, i'll apply 0.5KG of copper/aluminium mixed heatsinks bought from china 1 month ago to get rid of some heat just to sleep well without any nightmares.

@flingin: 66°C idling is hot. The CPU won't throttle as long as throttlestop is "on" and everything is withing the TDP/TDC.

Hmm, it definitely gets a bit warmer. Last time I really used setfsb is a while ago. I only know that it makes the whole system quite unstable for me, even with only a slight adjustment.
If it works fine for you, great!! :) I only think it's much easier (and definitely more stable) to just adjust the multi and TDP/TDC.

    Temps update so far
    Running vantage,
    28/23/20/19
    TDP/TDC - 70/56
Multi set to turbo in TS

103'C at the end of 3dVantage witch caused system SW-OFF
(ye i know i almost damage it)
I feel i am real noob at applying IC Diamond 7.

    Any sugestions ?

Lift your heatsink and check whether the spread was ok. If yes - then do it same as the last time (clean off the old paste off course), in this case I'm afraid your cooling system reaches its limits...
If the spread isn't good, e.g. some spots of the heatsink/die aren't covered, then reapply the thermal paste. You'll see whether you'll need more or less.
Also make sure the heatsink is flat. Always fix the screws in a cross, not in a square (hope you know what I mean.)

Not nice, but I don't think it makes such a big difference. You only have one heatpipe covering the die. Maybe the cooling get to it's limits.

Are there other users here who have the GX740 running with a 920xm?

In this case your cooling system should be able to handle this CPU. Well, make sure the die and heatsink is absolutely clean before you paste it... clean it with isopropyl alcohol or similar stuff.

Sand Paper arrived and i have leaped my heatsink just a little bit to give it more mirror-like finish, not exactly mirror, but i think surface is more smooth now.

On tuesday i will attach copper plate to the CPU heatpipe (i bought 200x100x1.5mm one)

Temps still high though hitting 61 in idle. Does anyone use IC diamond 7 carat with 920XM ? (i bought MX-4 for comparison as well)

And how do you apply it ? exactly like they say on IC Diamond web site ?

Line, dot, spread it on my 920 DIE ? How much pressure should i use ?

    Any clues ?

This man speaks wisdom and you won't even listen (or read)...

If you don't want to drill some holes, remove the back panel entirely and test the system again (just test it).

Removing the back panel reduced my temps by 15 (for both CPU and GPU) and yes I do have a 920XM installed.

And yes, i have back panel removed since then all the time with zalman cooling pad on max rpm, i have tested MX-4 paste and my cpu was hitting 96'C at stock TDP/TDC 16x133 4 cores- 8 thread TS bench 1024... and i was hitting this temperature whithin 15 seconds from starting this test (approx 2-3% complete).

I can read my friend, just my heatsink seems to be not working as intended - BUT WHY !
(whole CPU heatpipe is HOT AS HELL giving me to know repaste should be fine as well)
Strange thing is going on as when i run TS bench, 1st core is hitting 92 quick, while others are approx 10'C less ,lets say 92/90/88/82 -LOL (i have checked the pressure of heatsink is ok across whole DIE and its ok)
All this with MX-4, and my ICD7 was much more better comparing to this, lets say -6 to -8'C in stress.

My idle temps are max 60-63'C.

It is very warm outside now, approx 30'C so this may affect temps a littlebit but HAY !
Now i must just borrow a tool to cut nice shaped copper plate and use adhesive to mount it,if i will not succed, I GIVE UP !

And the 30°C Outside temp. is nothing to worry about. my idles are the same on 15°C and 30°C Outside.

Did you bought a ES Sample or a retail CPU?
I dont think this makes much difference but im reading that thread from begining and have not much more ideas...

OEM version my dear friend, i will do some more tests, see if i can drop these temps DOWN

    EDIT:

    temps at TDP/TDC 60/48
    25/23/17/17
    IDLE 51-55
Gaming, star craft 2, max 83'C

    These are temps in TS,
I dont know why core temp v0.99.8 shows temps from 49-54, and 77 max to 83 in TS respectively, always lower about 2-3-6 'C than TS why ?

You have to adjust TJMax in TS to 100c instead of 105c I think!
