Hey I recently noticed that my eSATA port does not work with my external hard drive, I tested the cable with another laptop and drive and it worked fine. The drive also works fine using USB.

I am wondering if anyone else has ran into this problem??

I currently use eSATA with my NexStar CX enclosing a 500GB HDD and it's working fine.

Check that your SATA mode is AHCI in your BIOS settings.
Also, does it show up under disk management when you right click on my computer and click Manage?

The eSata port of this notebook seems to be particular.
A stock cable of my icybox enclosing also failed on my X7811, but works on my desktop.
Maybe try another cable. I had purchased a Digitus esata one.

I just used the one that came with the enclosure.

It seems like it doesn't go in fully on one end but I tried the other end and it's working fine.

What drivers are you using? Some of the older Intel Matrix drivers didn't play nice with hotswapping eSATA drives.

Did your enclosure come with a USB to DC power cable?

I use an Eagle Tech Toolless 2.5" Enclosure, works with USB just fine but for eSata (on GX640) I have to use the USB Power cable.

    Sorry about the belated reply,

So I use "NexStar CX" with a Seagate Barracuda® 7200.12

Ill check about the drivers but I'm pretty sure they are up-2-date, thanks for the second thoughts guys. USB works fine just eSATA doesnt

Odd, we're using the same enclosure and same laptop but it still doesn't work...
I use mine with the WD5000AAKS...

Check the intel rapid storage. Does it show that the seagate drive?

    Just try an other cable.
Imho, 50% of the cheaper ones didn't worked with the internal esata port. But worked with an esata-expresscard-adaptor!
    I don't think it's driver related.

Swap the Vantec enclosure with another brand, and I can virtually guarantee that it will work. I use a Thermaltake Max 4, and it's great.
