OK so last night i downloaded the new drivers from ati, and the new CCC that comes with it, its made specially for laptops.
ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver
I have seen a good improvement not only in the 3d but also 2d imagery.
BUT.....the best part for me was discovering that you can now fine tune everything to do with your screen, including contast, colour etc etc etc, you can also configure a setting just for watching video/dvds, and vastly improve the screens looks.
So far, i havnt had time to mess too much, but just upping the contrast and colour both to 122 from the 100 default has majorly improved my screen, THANKS ATI!

You were able to adjust color, contrast, etc., even with the previously released CCC versions. Just so you know.
-
i didnt ever find those settings no, just need to know how to optimise everything now, anyone got the best settings?
-
Those types of settings are user-specific. There are no best settings for everyone. Just use what looks best to you.
-
Yep, the display does improve a lot when you mess with contrast and color.
Preivously the settings where a bit hard to find, though I was sure I wrote it in my review but it seems I forgot to do so.
Anyways I use 135 saturation with 109 contrast, -2 brightness and I feel it is the sweet spot for me. -

Tweaking all those settings is absolutely necessary on the GX740 because its screen isn't the greatest quality. I find it weird that there are two sets of color controls within the CCC with two separate contrast adjustments. I've spent plenty of hours toying with the settings and finally got some that make a big difference to the viewing experience, both in daily work and gaming.

thanks guys, does anyone know much about the hue and temperature settings for the screen? are they best left alone?
-
I just adjusted the settings as well, now every skirt on the internet is see-through. Oh thank you thank you.
-
Just make sure to readjust if you see any abnormal bulges under those skirts
-
Any recommended settings?
-
ryzeki 's settings above are a big improvement on the standard ones, id use those as a starting point.

To anyone else interested, an additional setting that improves image quality is gamma. You can configure it via Windows 7 and for me it gave an additional extra touch.
Now... if only we could improve the viewing angles.
GX660R Screen is now SO much better! thanks ATI!
