So I ordered an MSI GX640-098US laptop and with the money I saved on it from my supplier, I apparently have enough left over to get a WUXGA screen.

    My question is :
Can I pop in any replacement LED or LCD panel off of eBay granted it is 15.4"?
    or
Do I have to find a manufacturer specific panel to use?

You should talk to meraki, he upgraded his screen on the 1727 (GX740). you can upgrade to an LG screen but you have to be sure you get the right one
