Alright, got myself all geared up for the 640/740 until I realised that coming out soon is also this shiny GT660. Now I'm even more conflicted as to what I want and if I'm willing to wait. Damn you informative message boards! Can never find bliss cause there's always a better option.

So how do theses stack up side by side? (my budget is 2000-2150, need to spend in that range)

Processor I would upgrade to 720 or 820 in either.
CCFL vs LED screen - LED is brighter and doesn't consume as much power?
ATI 5850 vs Nvidia GTS285M - 285 runs faster but also a lot hotter?
    GT660 has better sound?
Will there be a big battery life difference between the two?
How much longer will I need to wait for the GT660?

    Help plz!

The GX640/740 will be cheaper...especially if you go barebones and buy your own CPU.

Maybe a reseller has some new info on release dates but other than that there's really no solid answer to your other questions. Only answers you'll get for them now are guesses.

If that's the case you didn't have to create a new thread for that.

+ you already created a thread regarding GPU or battery life , didn't help ?

That was a whilte ago and more a 15" vs 17" / CPU thing.

CCFL compared to LED and the power eating tendencies of the Nvidias are something I've never asked about

Depends on task, but i'd hand it to the 640 to eat the 660 in gaming performance

285 is an OC'd 280 with good support for NVIDIA branded games, thats all i can see, and 5850 has dx11 too.

The 5850 is by consensus better but is it by a lot?

I read at notebookcheck that the 5850 is just a downclocked 5870. Wouldn't it be a simple matter to just oc the 5850 to 5870 levels? Provided you have good cooling that is...

I'm fairly certain the 5850 is better by an ok margine, along with more support for things, but one needs to wait for MSI to release these lovely machines :).
