Hey,
I purchased a GX640 from Xotic and it was delivered on Friday. I loaded the system and it ran great, added my software and played a game. Everything was fine when I shut the system down (wrote a few emails and browsed the web before bed) but when I started it today I kept getting blue screen crashes.
When it tried to load windows it blue-screened while still at the "loading" screen. Started in safe mode and everything was fine, but when I tried normal mode it just kept crashing. Uninstalled the video card driver and normal mode loaded, but anytime I try to load the video card drivers and restart I get blue screens (drivers from the disk, from the website, etc).
I also just did a system restore and it couldn't load the drivers - it stuck me with the standard VGA after testing my display.
Sounds to me like the video card is shot - anyone else have ay ideas? Its strange because I didn't do anything between turing off and on the system, it just sat on my desk - and didnt work the next time I powered it up.

try booting with only one stick of ram at a time. Sounds like another problem that another member has been having.
I believe that if the video was show, you would only see artifacts (not the good kind) if you were lucky, most likeley, the screen would stay black.

Thanks for the idea. I took out one stick of ram then the other, and still have the same problem. Trying to load any ATI drivers results in a blue screen restart loop.

Since it's so new I would return it.
Yeah it's a pain in the butt but you paid good money for it so everything should work fine right off the bat. -
Yes, thanks for the support - I was irritated when it happened but in the grand scheme of things I'd rather it happen now while its easy to get exchanged then 3 months down the road.
My old laptop is still in good condition so at least I wont be without a system until this all gets sorted out. I'll let you all know how Xotic is with the exchange and turn around time. -
Did you send it back yet?
-
what is your vga's bios version?
-
Shipped it back last night. Xotic has been very good so far - they gave me the option to either send it to MSI for repair, or send it back to them to be exchanged for a new unit. I picked the latter and sent it off with fed ex last night (only $12), and at the same time got an email from Xotic telling me they were already preparing my replacement (upgrading processor again).
I think I just got unlucky and got a lemon and I'm hoping lightning doesn't strike twice
This has been a terrible week for me and technology. I ordered a VX nano wireless mouse from amazon and they shipped me the wrong item. Then when I got the replacement, someone had taken the nano out of the box and replaced it with the cheaper model! ARG. Back that went yesterday too - here's to hoping things shape up. -

they require a signature. sent via UPS. Double box.

only danger is with the shipping company. suppose an employee could steal it, but i'm sure they keep pretty good tabs on their expensive packages. the delivery guy had me sign and confirmed my last name. make sure it's shipped to your girlfriend (or her last name) and not yours.
-
Yes, it's only a double box. That's why I made sure I had it shipped to work, I didn't want to either a) wait around all day for it to be delivered or b) have it sit in my mail room where anyone could pick it up.
