Does anyone make a remote that takes advantage of the CIR (infra red) built into the front of the GX640? had an old HP laptop that had an IR remote which stored in the expresscard slot when it wasn't being used. is there anything like that available for the GX640?

You should be able to use any media center remote, including of course the express card sized ones. They make some bluetooth ones which will probably be better than IR since you don't need to worry about the line-of-sight thing.

I tried one, nothing happened. Does media center have to be running? Does 7 even have media center?

The version that came with the laptop definitely has media center. I tried it with my Logitech Harmony remote and couldn't get it to work either. There is also very little info on this when I do a Google search. I'm sure one of the Bluetooth ones will work though.
