I've noticed that my GPU can get up to 95 C while playing Starcraft. I initially tried overclocking it, but that got way too hot, so now I just have the thing on default settings...but it's still getting this hot.

I do have ATI overdrive enabled, but I have all the sliders on their original settings.

Is 95 C way too hot for this GPU?

Also, I've noticed that if I leave my computer on for a day or so, the frame rate and overall performance speed of SC 2 drops pretty signifigantly, but so do my temperatures. However, if I restart the computer, the performance is high again, but so are the high temps.

I have done nothing to change the power settings (they are on high performance), so I don't think that's the issue.

Could this be an issue with powerplay?

Yes possibly but why would you leave a laptop like this on for so long anyways? Yea this graphics card can take 95oC but its on the edge of the safe zone. Try the copper shim mod or try new thermal paste

110*C is auto shutdown limit, seeing that way 95*C is okay if its during stress testing but not okay(not something to worry, I mean it can be lower) during gaming.

So I would recommend you, to remove the back cover and have a look, make sure the gfx card is making good contact with the heatsink, if not then try the copper shim mod.
It always good to apply after-market thermal pastes, MSi doesn't use high-end ones.
And its doesnt hurt if you use a notebook cooler.

I dont know if you guys know it already but the amount of elevation the notebook's feet provide is much lesser than required and it is almost mandatory for you to elevate your laptop in some way so as to provide more air space underneath your laptop(it automatically happens if you use a notebook cooler).

Well I actually just downloaded GPU Z and after playing SC2 for about three hours, the maximum temperature was only 83 C according to that program...Apparently CCC isn't reading the temps correctly?

Depends on what temps you are talking about.
There are GPU core temps and MemIO temps. CCC reads MemIO which is always higher.

i play for hours with that temp, i dont think its that bad. btw its the memory sensor that is that temp, the other ones are typically 80s

Yeah GPU Z said the other two cores only reached a maximum of 80 C, while the second core reached a maximum of 83.5 C. That seems far more resonable than what CCC was saying.

I do have a notebook cooler and thermal paste installed, so this thing should run reasonably cooler than it normally would. I might try overclocking again and see how it affects the actual temps.

Thanks for all of the help and info guys :)

I run Assasin's Creed II and the temps hover around 98C-102C :(

I run Assassins Creed II on 1680x1050 and max settings, yet I dont get those temps.

The 5xxx series were supposed to be cooler than our 4xxx series, it all looks the other way. Maybe MSi should have installed two fans instead of one.

Anyways do you have a aftermarket thermal paste done?
Did you do the Copper shim mod?
Do you own a notebook cooler?
If no, do you elevate you notebook to provide more space below the notebook.

If all above are no, then try those and report back the temps.

I did an overclock of 50 Mhz today and to my suprise, the GPU didn't get over 80 C after 3 hours of gaming. I'll have to keep testing...

Starcraft 2 runs like a dream on this machine

Well the only practical one for me is elevating the GX640.

Elevating the notebook cooler makes a HUGE difference. I've noticed about a 5-10 C difference when gaming.
