I've had my GX640 for about a year (for school, LANs/Gaming, and general computing), and I really like it. I recently bought a new desktop, which outperforms my GX640. I used to use this laptop for anything and everything, but now that I have two machines, I'd like to have them used for separate tasks and be more organized. So, I'd like to make a clean install on my GX640 and install only what I need for portability.
Here's the problem: The MSI System Recovery function (f3 on startup) doesn't work. I can get into it, and it asks me if I want to do this (format everything, etc) and it appears to start. However, after a few minutes, the screen flashes into a different background color (grey instead of blue) and windows then starts up normally, nothing changed.

What do I need to do here? For my desktop, I ordered Microsoft Home Premium 64-bit, which is what the GX640 came with pre-installed. Would I be able to use that disc to reinstall windows on my GX640 using the key on the bottom of the laptop? Or is that key not compatible with a retail version of windows? If I did that, won't I have to install all the MSI-specific drivers by hand?

Does some MSI software not give you an option to burn a recovery disk?

Yes, there is a program called "Burn Recovery"
However, when I open it up, I get an alert saying "Split process occur false" and I have no idea what that means. When I hit OK, it says "prepare files, please wait..." and doesn't move from there (it's also stuck on the screen, unmoving and unable to minimize)

Also, when I start this program, a new drive appears under 'my computer' called BIOS_RVY, and is ~5gb large, but I can't get into it.

That's your recovery partition, sounds like both programs are hitting the same problem TBH. Hmz. There is a chance your recovery partition has become corrupt maybe (a complete guess).
