I have had this laptop for a while now and I love it but I am not in love with the red trim around the edges.

Is there any where that I can get the MSI MS-1656 GRAY trim for my laptop and swap it?

    rkcomputers.net

    Lower case $99.00
    Upper case $79.00
    C panel $59.00
    B panel $59.00
    A Panel $95.00

Not cheap for a make over. You need all the parts.

    Cheers

Yeah, spray paint over glossy plastic, can't wait to see the results of that operation.

    Lol, yeah.

If you go the painting route, I'd say you're better off dis-assembling the thing so you can get just the red plastic parts of the case unhooked and on their own. Then you could try a high quality automative spraypaint laid down in multiple thin coats (possibly sanding before hand and after each subsequent coat).

It should take pretty well, but man, i don't want to think about what you would need to do do get the red trim off. Disassembly guide posted anywhere?

    1651 is not a GX640.
    GX640 is 1656 I think.

    Anyway they are similar.

    The 1651 guide is here:

    (as the GX620)

Don't know where to get the 1656 guide.

Ok, this is because of my hosting provider again ... :(
Tell me if you can't get it out from the site that moral gave you and I can send it to you by e-mail.

    how to dye plastic

Let us know how it works.

I dont mind the red. It is the Silver grill that drives me crazy (not really).

I sometimes get the urge to get a black Sharpie and paint the grill.

Wonder what that would look like. Anyone want to try? ;)

I'm just glad it doesn't have "Republic of Gamers" stamped across the lid. The stupid chrome grill and space age touch controls I can live with. The red I actually don't mind at all, which surprised me.

I've got a heatsink from a dell xps M1330, dell painted the grill black, looks good.
But I would expect your temps to be higher.

    Dakins, exactly that grill...

It really looks bad in that picture, doesn't it?

Wonder how hard it would be to take it out and get it painted?

If MSI sold custom grills, I would pick it up for sure.

    I don't mind it.

Edit: On second thought, it could be better.

It's really easy to take that out. If you do paint yours, please upload some info about what paint you used and how to paint it.

I don't know if you've seen the grill on other models, but you might be able to swap for another one.
