I was wondering if it was possible to switch from the stock 9600M GT to an ATi video card, something like a 3870 or 4850? No real reason other then I am a bit of a AMD/ATI fanboy. I have no clue what form factor the stock video card uses, if its MXM or not and if it is which version?

Very doubtful...

I don't think it is possible. As I see GX630 is based on AMD version of MS-1651 ID3 (I can't find its name now), but you can chage its card only with another MXM2 card, because of the space issue. Somebody here who owns one can post more detailed picture to see this. I've used the one which is on the MSI site.

It'll probably work. An MXM-III or MXM-IV card will physically fit into the space and connection of the GX630. The only problem is that you'll need the proper heatsink to fit it. A heatsink from an MSI GT627 would do the trick. I got an ATi 3870 from my W840 to post for a split second before I fried it for not making contact with the heatsink that was already non-compatible. So there is hope.

Actually do you have somebody that sell mobile GPUs? I asked reasenly my dealer and his prices were very high. So I sugest you to stay with this card and just overclock it. It can easyly go to the speeds of GF9700M-GT
. I'll do this with my MS-1722, when my CPU comes (3 days more...)

I guess I will leave it as it is. It is plenty fast enough to do what I want with it, Play World of Warcraft when not at home.
