    hi, i just joined :)

okay, so i was wondering if anyone could help me with this. my mind is puzzled right now. i've tried everything i know to make this thing run properly and it just wont.

right, so this gx60 i have. windows 8.1 x64, 15.71 catalyst drivers, 8970m. i've tried three games, the first borderlands, walking dead and fallout 3. none of which run correctly. i should be able to max out all these games, but i'm unable to. some dude on youtube with exactly the same gx60 and he can run bd1 maxxed at 60fps.

so the problem is the gpu utilization. when i run these games, the msi's power led does change to orange and afterburner during gameplay never shows the utilization going above 30%-46% hangs in this area. that means dedicated right? well, it does not feel like it's running on the 8970m at all. afterburner says it is. what i mean is the games all run like soot as if it was using the 8650g. afterburner is monitoring the 8970m and it appears to be utilized, but not correctly. only a third of it.

furmark however runs well and the gpu utilization hangs at 99% like it should.

what is this problem? is the card gone? i've tried the drivers on msi's website and they don't solve anything at all.

Have you checked int the Catalyst Control Center? I believe you can optimize settings for applications in the advanced settings.

The machine has a weak CPU thus limiting GPU in certain game titles.
Did the guy on youtube replaced the processor? Some people actually upgraded it to a better ES processor on their GX60 to gain more performance.

@Tanner@XoticPC yeah, i've tried that several times. it does nothing at all

@Kevin@GenTechPC i highly doubt it's the cpu. the utilization never goes above 40% when playing these games unless action is happening. the guy has a stock 5750m.

How is your CPU utilization when playing said games? What are your CPU clockspeeds and temperatures? GX60 is really held back by the very weak CPU. You will be bottlenecked in many games.

i should be able to play these titles maxxed out though. they are not cpu demanding and other people have identical systems without oc and they get way better performance. lowering the settings does almost nothing.

yeah. borderlands when staring at smoke, the cpu will go up to 55% never any further.

temps are cold with turbo fan on. cpu will go up to 65 celsius same with gpu. clockspeeds? yeah, i've got the turbo locked so it's at a constant 3.2ghz.
