I just got my new GX 660R through today - with i7-740QM

I have just started it up and gone through windows setup however the fan is running full blast, and when I press the fan button on the laptop it makes no difference just contant full blast. Is this a fault or a setting issue?

Dont know if I should just send it back....

Fan should NOT go at full blast like that. There might be something wrong with the fan and how it is wired, or maybe bad thermal paste job with the CPU/GPU.

You should definitely contact support to check if there is an easy fix, or definitely send it back because thats not a standard deal with the machine.

Monitor temps with HWMonitor, see if temps are too high forcing the fan at max.

Agreed with Ryzeki. First monitor the temps. If they are high that should causing your problems.

well now its not even booting - the HDD's are not showing in boot sequence - can run the system recovery but once it says "windows has been installed - restart now" it just fails to boots - black screen "please insert boot device"........................really hate buying new computers and I was looking forward to this one. Was a toss up between this and a Alienware - and now its prob gunna be weeks to get it replaced. Any ideas?

Well, if you didn't do anything to damage the laptop, it sounds like you got a lemon. Best to just exchange for same item if you can, to not have to deal with a lot of time inbetween.

It happens with most brands, and it sucks when it happens.

Sounds like something died and part of the reason you heard the fan at max.
