 OK so i know when it's time to ask questions and this would be one of them. I'm a fairly able person if i could get pointed in the right direction i will definitely do the research to get it done. how do i know what i need as far as .inf file. "that probably sound's pretty retarded but us beginners must begin somewhere" then i probably need a procedure of some kind, in order to know where and or how to swap out or install this .inf file. I noticed in your thread that you have a second screen set up off your vga port. wile swapping cards and doing upgrades is the vga port not affected while your messing with graphics card upgrades?

I accidentally bought a used 680m 2gb mxm card off ebay. It has a green pcb and hynix ram modules. Since its 2gb, it must be the alienware 680m.

If I decide to go through the purchase, I'll test it on my 1761-ID1. Hopefully it can post right away.

Interesting, care to tell me the seller and the price in pm? I'm trying hard to look for one but I haven't got any luck.
If its a dell 2gb card, it should work straight OTB.

First post updated with more pics and new benches! Clevo GTX680M doesn't seem to post into the MSI 16F2 :(

So I take it that, even with optimus disabled vbios, 680M didn't work with 16F2?

Optimus can't be "disabled", I was using the MSI modded vbios - though I still got a chance as thanks for Ken from GentechPC, I've got the MSI OEM vbios.
That's really strange though, the Clevo GTX680M works fine in the M17xR2 and M17xR3/M18xR1 so doesn't really make sense that it doesn't work into the 16F2...

Yeh, I was able to install a 670M with an Optimus BIOS into my old 16F2 without any problems.

So it must be something other than Optimus keeping it from working.

Oh, I decided not to purchase it. Also Pau1ow tested the Dell card in the 16F2 and it didn't work. 16F2 is really similiar, so I think the 780DX would also not work.

Our last hope is the MSI card.

I'm not sure, it didn't work in my MSI 16F2 (GT680) but I really don't understand why...as it works in the GX640, GT660 and other non-optimus laptops (M17xR2)

Hi all, I bought a GentechPC MSI 1761 Barebones in October 2011 that came with the Nvidia GTX570M video card. It has been an awesome laptop, but I am starting to get video card envy now that the GTX680M has come out :(

I have the opportunity to buy a used GTX675M 2gb video card (Part No N13E-GS1) for a reasonable price.

I understand that the GTX675M is essentially a tweaked and rebranded GTX580M (which I know can be installed on some versions of the MSI 1761).

I have had a look at the threads on this forum and could not get a clear answer on the following:
    1. am I able to install this video card in my 1761? (I suspect it is physically compatible - but that is never the end of the story...)
    2. is my existing motherboard likely to be compatible?
    3. will I need to make any physical modifications to get it to fit or work?
    4. is there a particular bios that I will need to use, and does it already exist?
    5. am I likely to have power issues?
If anyone is able to give advice on this I would be eternally grateful. Please let me know if there any additional information that you would need to be able to help.

    Cheers.

    Jim

So after reading through this I gather that Clevo, MSI and Dell GTX 680M will work on the 1762 Barebone?

Do you know of any sellers, or just eBay, NBR marketplace?

I can buy GTX680M 4GB Dell Alienware M17xR4 for a very good price and I don't know if it's going to fit into my GT780DX currently with GTX 570M 1.5GB inside?
Is it possible to do? And if so what should i do to do that?

You can see what needs to be done to the heatsink in the first post. Also it's not a dell original card if it's 4GB, dell cards are 2GB so it's likely a clevo card. Not sure if it was tested with teh GT780DX particularly though.

No one tested a gtx680m in the GT780 notebooks - so far it doesn't work in a MSI 16F2.

Majster, do you work for msi? Do you know why so many nvidia cards are not compatible with the 680,683,16f2,780,783,1761? Is it just non-MSI nvidia cards?

Can I upgrade the graphics card in the MSI/Force 1762 (gtx 675m)? Is it safer than in the sager NP9150? Does the Samsung series 7 gamer have mxm?

can be upgraded to 680M too ?

is it problematic to do the bios and driver update?
    thank you.

    GT = Retail
Barebone = OEM and come with a number code like 16F2

3rd gen (not second gen) CPU units can take the 680M (Non kepler versions like the 675M will need a new heatsink), if you get an MSI video card there should not be issues.

From my investigations I don't think it needs being flashed, just don't update it to a later Clevo bios, keep to the older versions.

I've just bought clevo GTX 680m, but it's not working in my MSI GT70 0NC. Is it becouse card have 80.04.33.00.10 vbios version? It will work in GT70 only with 80.04.29.00.01 version?

Is there any way to flash older vbios version to my 680m? System can't detect the card, it remains undetected when i'm trying to flash it in DOS with nvflash as well.
