Hello guys,
I have a GT72VR 6RE with G-sync MSI Laptop. Sadly the GPU is partially dead (artefacts all over the screen, crashes, windows detecting a damaged hardware etc...).
So I bought an other GTX1070 MXM on ebay, which was used in a Vorter G65 6RE before.
Sadly, when I plug the new GPU in the laptop, the laptop screen stays completly off, but i can use the HDMI port. So i though that I would just have to flash the vbios to the one I was using on the GPU that died, but I couldn't because of a mismatch betwen the PCI Device ID.
The new GPU ID is : 10DE 1BA1 - 1462 11AF and the previous GPU ID was :10DE 1BE1 - 1462 11AF
Pretty close right? but the A1 and E1 variation are fcking everything up. I've read that 1BA1 is for non G-sync and 1BE1 is for G-sync. I've also read that the G-sync variation is not part of the card but is an external part no on the GPU board.
So now I'm wondering what can I do : is there a way to force the vbios flash or to change the PCI ID ? I really need some help here. I'm no expert and I've try as much as I could. Maybe I need to do some vbios editing but I don't really know how to do it and what to do exactly to make this work.
Thank you very much for your help guys

eventually, one will work.

Okay so first, I had some evolutions since myf first mesage:
-I've managed to make the card boot on the laptop screen by flashing a MSI vbios that had the same device PCI ID (1BA1).
-I tried to install with edited .inf files the nvidia drivers but I still have the error 43 once right after the driver installation
-When I try to flash my former vbios or any 1BE1 Vbios on the card i got this :
"
NVIDIA Firmware Update Utility (Version 5.333.0)
Simplified Version For OEM Only
Checking for matches between display adapter(s) and image(s)...
Adapter: GeForce GTX 1070 (10DE,1BA1,1462,11AF) H:--:NRM S:00,B:01,D:00,F:00

WARNING: Firmware image PCI Subsystem ID (1462.11FF)

Nothing changed!
ERROR: GPU mismatch
"
That's why I plan to Hardware flash the vbios of the card in order to change the PCI ID. I will copy the vbios of my old card in the new one with this tool CH341A (I will save both of them first of course, in case something goes wrong I'll reverse the process)
https://www.amazon.de/KeeYees-SOIC8...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=GJMQ7XX3G5GZZ7T9YCEP
Do you think this might work ?
The other option would be to change de firmware on my laptop to make it recognize the 1BA1 PCI ID as a compatible one, but Idk if that is the best option -

Could you post your original vbios and the ones you have tried here?
-
Following this - I was able to get my 1BA1 card to read a 1BE1 VBIOS but was unable to get past driver errors (error 43.)

Hi! Thanks for your replis.
I try this right now. -
The bios that made me have 1BA1 card using the integrated monitor is this one : https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/197312/197312
FYI guys, I will receive the adaptator for the programmer tomorrow, i'll tell you if I manage to change the PCI ID this way. If it does, I'll make a tutorial post about it that's for sure.
Btw, there is a risk that I just fcked up big time by using the CH341A, which is a 3,6V adaptater for the chip which is a 1,8V....the card seem to be still be working fine with no driver installed, but i dont know what kind of dommage this bad hardware flashing could have done. With the CH341A I've manager to install the .8A bios I had which was reserved for 1BE1 cards normally, but the PCI ID didnt. But this happened with the wrong voltage so I will be sure tomorrow once I'll have try with flashrom on linux and a proper 1.8v adaptator for the programmer.
DONT TRY THE HW FLASHING ON YOUR OWN unless you really know what you are doing. I'm now in contact with flashrom dev team so they tell me clear me what to do. I'll keep you posted and will probably make a tutorial on what I've learn so far. -

If your MXM Card use the vbios i gave you
1BA1: https://mega.nz/#F!jE8ThSCQ!R25t0AIJLRaXExItYRrBrg
1BE1: https://mega.nz/#F!KN8Xxa7T!lF_UmhBoPn-oa_rH2Ges-Q
What i mean by this is If the MXM currently in your system is 1BA1 then flash the 1BA1 Vbios if its a 1BE1 then flash the 1BE1 vbios.
The ones i've supplied will enabled the internal screen to work, As far as i am aware no GT72VR has an ID lock it will have DSDT entries for both versions of the card the only difference will be possibly G-Sync.
Cross flashing between the two Device ID's will not work as all your going to get is Code 43 or a blank screen, I should know i have been trying to change my GTX 1060 device ID for ages, there are transistors on the card that will configure the GPU to a set ID and the Vbios checks this hence the Code 43 issues.
So if your after just making your internal screen to work just flash the correct Device ID Vbios i have linked.
As for your little 3.6v on a 1.8v chip you could be lucky and not killed the vbios chip or you just placed it in a pan of boiling fat, its why i use a Sky Pro -> 1.8v adaptor with SOIC8 test clip.
If you can still dump the vbios on the card with nvflash you might have lucked out. -

Subsystem ID and Board ID don't match, is that a factor?Click to expand... -

However, when I do a custom install of Nvidia drivers, modifying the nvmii.inf file and without Windows checking the drivers, I can go through the install but right after, I still have the code 43 again :/
Why do you think I still have this problem? could it be the mess I did with the 3,6V programmer ? If i do a clean Hw flash with the proper 1.8v programmer Maybe I could fixe that? -

I added this line in the nvmii file:
%NVIDIA_DEV.1BA1% = Section142, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1BA1
If you have a card working that way, could you send me the .bin file you can extract with a hardware flash?
Maybe there are some part of the vbios that cannot be changed only with nvflash and requiere an hw flash to make the card fully compatible.
What do you think?Last edited: Sep 19, 2019 -

The vbios be it dumped by nvflash or SPI programmer will be the same.
However have you tried both vbioses for 1ba1 I uploaded will look later when I get back from hospital I might have other 1ba1 vbioses.

If I wrongly change the .inf file in Display.Driver, can it leads to an installation that goes to the end, but with an error 43 at the end?
I added this line : %NVIDIA_DEV.1BA1% = Section142, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1BA1
In device manager, when I check the "events" on the GPU, all status of the installation are at 0 -

Right will need a screen shot from GPU-z so can correctly mod the driver for you.

Ok so you know I tried various Vbios, none of them seemed to work. The one you'll see is not necessarly the best one.

Well standard drivers should work fine as that device ID is in the standard drivers?

No sadly I dont think the 10DE 1BA1 1462 11AF is by default in the drivers
-
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
however there is an 10DE 1BA1 1462 11AE, so which driver you using Standard or DCH?
Also i take its for the latest driver as well??
Edit: I have modded the .inf file for the Nvidia DCH 461.30 drivers, simply Download the attached file and extract it into the Display.Driver folder.
It should work on both Standard and DCH 461.30 drivers.Attached Files:

WHOW big news, I had an error message saying I need DHC package ! Never had this one before.
Can i try again with the same Nvmii file in a DHC package? -

You can use the DCH version just to test it yes. Driver signature enforcement needs to be disabled.
If it works and you want to use the standard version of the driver look for 10DE 1BA1 1462 11AE then copy that line and change 11AE to 11AF
Do the same to each section and you should be golden just remember if your going from standard to DCH or the other way make sure you run a DDU.
