NVIDIA GeForce GTS 160M - Notebookcheck.net Tech
based on this i think it can but you need to upgrade to either windows vista or 7 first -
@dragon290513 ;
thx for the heads up man.. if i jump to win 7, do you have any links for drivers ? which one do you think better 32 or 64 bit ?
TIA -
Minimum requirements for Battlefield 3
OS: Windows Vista or Windows 7
Processor: Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz or Althon X2 2.7 GHz
RAM: 2GB
Graphic card: DirectX 10 or 11 compatible Nvidia or AMD ATI card, ATI Radeon 3870 or higher, Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT or higher.
Graphics card memory: 512 MB
Sound card: DirectX compatibl sound card
Hard drive: 15 GB for disc version or 10 GB for digital version
64bit if possible. For drivers you can download and use driver genius professional. It will find and download most of the drivers you need automatically. -
GeForce GTS 160M = GF 9600GT = HD 3870 desktop
-
There's zero reason to go for a 32-bit OS in this age of PC gaming. Pretty soon you'll need all of the RAM you can get, and the 32-bit's cap of using a max of 3.2GB is not going to cut it anymore.
-
Expect it to be playable only in low settings,
what are the other components? -
even i can get win 7 64 bit running, how the performance would likely be on stock no OC'd graphic card, 4 gb RAM, & core 2 Q9000 ? maybe 20-ish fps, low setting, res 1280 x 800 ?
i haven't upgraded OS so far just yet. still didn't find some drivers for win 7 64 bit on this laptop. if anybody has link(s), please inform me. thx. -
-
You need only the vga and realtek audio driver and the SCM. Everything else will work fine with win7. With latest beta driver it will run well on 1280x800 and low settings.
-
@Kirr :
thanks for the info ! i believe you have tried already. -
It should easily play BF3 on low-medium settings. -
It's a pretty accurate post. The 160M and 98M GTS share the same hardware characteristics as the 9600 GT.
-
9600GT was quite decent in its time.

He meant the desktop version

tried it on my gt628 laptop. my average fps is around 30-20 fps outside and sometimes dips below 20 fps and that's not playable to me. my video card driver is already up to date. i wont give up on this game yet until i upgrade my laptop's cpu to a quad but im not sure if that would help.
my video settings are all low btw. -
Quad will help you a lot. Mostly when you overclock it near 3GHz. It gives a huge fps boost for me. (but with gtx)
-
i managed to put win7 64bit, and still missing the SCM (System Control Manager) for touch panel (webcam, bluetooh, etc). google doesn't come up w/ anything good so far.
can somebody give me a link please ?
it would really help if any of you with win7 64 bit can upload this SCM to something like Megaupload / Multiupload.
TIA, -
msi.com search for gt628 than on the download page. there will be the SCM. maybe under other or applications not under drivers.
-
It seems to be no longer listed by MSI. You can try download it from either GT780 or GT683/680 under Utilities.
-
So what's this?
MSI GT628 -
