I just wanted to see if this card will work. I guess it is compatible.

The GTX 1080 is from a GT73VR/GT75VR. I won't be going through with the upgrade. I do not feel like modifying heat sinks. lol I just wanted to share this.

I did modify the original GPU heat sink from the GT73VR/GT75VR to test this.

Nice, would you post photo's of the laptop as you modded / tested? :)

It looks like the GT83 1080 SLI has gone up in cost... $5499! But, the GT83 1070 SLI looks cheap at $2499 (2 days left sale)...

MSI is still carrying on the upgrades, and you can even get a 2nd upgrade to Turing (to non-SLI models) if you got a Pascal upgrade previously - IDK if the GT83 1080 SLI is an upgrade option any longer... If your GT83 came with a receipt, register it with MSI and send an email to the trade-in group at MSI and ask for a current upgrade list of options / costs.

I won’t be going through with the modifications. I just wanted to see if it works without any VBIOS mod. Modification will take time. It will take some work and patient as I don’t have at the moment.

Maybe I will... only time will tell. Lol

So I basically got a very good deal on a gt63 with a rtx 2080 gpu. I’m planning on putting that mxm in my gt83vr. The extra tab might interfere with the fan though. So far I’ve heard that the vbios should be compatible. So it’s plug and play, maybe need chassis mods and then a heatsink taken direct from the gt63.

And plus you don’t need to connect the power connector as the gt63 doesn’t have it connected lol.

Laptop sold before I was going to get it , but here is a picture of it:

You can see that the rtx card is not connected by any external power source, the 6 pin connector is left bare. Which means the card can function without it perfectly fine. This card is 150w and seems to perform exactly equivalent to a desktop rtx 2080 even without the power pins connected

Currently in the process of saving up for a GT63 RTX 2080, its one of the cheapest fully fledged MXM laptops, shame about the 1 M.2+2.5HDD slot. Impressed by its performance

Wish they'd offer the WT75 with a RTX or regular GTX GPU, I'm sure many here would love for that.

@DaMafiaGamer Any news on whether the Tornado F5 can take RTX, or at least the pascal GT63 taking RTX?
