Well, I gotta say that the look on the new MSI laptops, specially because they are based on the 660 models hehe.

I have bought most of my laptops from Gentech, so I am glad they offer them too.
Now if I could get a 6970m in there myself...

Ah... that's very good news ... unfortunately is not my time to get new laptop now ...

What materials are they using? Plastic all the way? Aluminium?

Awesome Ken. Thanks
I like the looks of it. Beautiful laptop. Will consider it for shure but a bit disappointing with only 1 fan when Asus have 2 fans with their 460M models. If only someone could test the GPU and compare it to 460M.
-
-
Pretty neat design.. Damm I don't have money right now to recklesly go for a 17incher. -

TDP is comparable between the 560m and the 5870 Mobility, right? If so, yeah, the single fan can keep it quite cool. 6970 or 470m or 485m would be a different story, I think.
With that said, I do notice the dedicated CPU fan does seem to keep the G73 and G53 CPUs cooler, so there's that. Then again, CPU's are much, much less susceptible to heat damage than a GPU is.
And, aluminum palmrest? That's cool. And changeable key lights? It's like a less expensive Alienware.
And, lastly, buy from Gentech. Ken himself is worth the business, because he's probably the best customer rep we have (which is saying a lot, since all the other sales reps are great) -
Any chance to see barebone/whitebook of this one? A barebone might fit in my price range and in time to be able to assemble it as a total Beast!

With Turbo Fan turned on it works like a built-in laptop cooler, GX660/GT680 owner would agree with me.
I did make a short video of the sample unit:
YouTube - MSI GT780R Sample unit -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Hmm. Interior looks very similar to the GX660R. Should be easy to mod, I'm sure.
Ken, how's the weight on this thing? I know it's 17-inch versus the 16-inch of the GX660R, but does it "feel" noticeably bigger when you're comparing both?
Oh, and benchmarks, especially graphics ones. (Unless you're under NDA, of course). -
Haven't run the benchmark yet since this uinit is just a sample unit not a full funtional unit, I'll test it more when the actual shipment arrives. -
A come on. 2 fans are superior to 1 fan cooling the entire laptop. G73/53 have 1 fan for CPU and 1 fan for GPU and it can cool down both very efficiency while at the same time they don`t have to run at full speed which is why they are the most quiet high end laptops out there.
I would imagine these laptops to be more noisy because it is 1 fan that have to cool down a 75W TDP GPU and a 45W CPU. Either that or it is hotter than the laptops with dual fans. But then again I am only guessing since i never owned a MSI before. -
Here are a youtube video of GT780. Man it looks 10x better than the old 680R

Now, if only it would come in a 15- or 16-inch form factor...

Ken a little question about the gt683 why does it still have the same price as the gt680, isnt the specs a little higher since it has the gtx 560m?
-
-
Guys im about to buy this but need a few questions answered first.
Have asus released another 17 incher ? and with then same specs ?
if not then i might get this been waiting for this thing for ages but what puts me off is one fan cooling everything i own an gx660 and i know the cooling is good but having 1 fan for each component will work much better. -
Asus have G74SX coming out soon. It is with 560M too. But it is ugly as HELL imo.

Noise i dont even notice any noise but 87% of time i have my fatality headphones on.
And thanks.

Then again, I don't own a G73 so I can't give a more-than/less-than comparison. But it doesn't annoy me, especially when not under load. -
The g74 is based of the stealth plane
its not supposed to look cool it is supposed to look stealthy
.
-
Thanks for the answers. I just fell in love with the design of the laptop.
BTW: According to GentechPC website 683R/780R have 90W power adapter. How is that possible with 75W GPU + 45W CPU? Typo? -
Its kinda funny that MSI can cool there systems with just a single fan and do it well. Asus had to use two because they got stupid with the design and closed the case up so tight that with out two fans it would over heat.
-
Interesting lighting like Alienware.
-
-
-
Also you guys who can afford this can change its lights to different colours like alienware so cool im having to half my car insurance and sell 2 laptops to get the 780r
because i get paid monthly
and i want this ASAP.
-
Is the keyboard of the GT780R of the same size as of the GT683? If so, isn't it possible then that you put the blacklight keyboard in the GT683R? You can then maybe buy the keyboard from MSI as a part.
-
-
-
Is it possible that GT780r and GT683r have exactly the same size? No mistake?
-
G74 is $1499 i think and GT780R is $1599 im going for Asus atm lol better spec better screen better sound etc.
This world is a funny thing huh i love MSI but i keep getting attracted to the G74 more and more. -
-
.
Anyway yes i am getting the G74 also but the GT780R has everything i need is is a lot lighter i really cant make my mind up im so bloody furious both laptops are really good. -
I just thought of something. Alienware have Optimus with 460M. Does these laptops have that too??
-
-
-
Can this be offered w/o the OS? I am not a big fan of Win 7. I still rather stick with Vista.
-
-
It should have switchable graphics chip integrated with sandy bridge motherboard.
-
You get MSI/ASUS for the value (1499$ with 1080p lcd/dual drives/lot of ram/gtx560m) with alienware you only get 1500$ with crap lcd/320gb hd/4gb ram/900p screen/no subwoofer at all...) so they have to make themselves unique to get buyers (keyboard/optimus/6970m option/3D screen/etc) -
I will wait to see if they offer this model into a barebone. Not sure if I want to fork over so much money for parts I already have sitting around.
