I think there is a lot of things floating around about the GT780R. So I thought this poll should shed some light about it instead of having to go through big threads. So I and I`m shure a lot of other people would be very happy if owners of the 780R could answer this simple poll. Remember you can select more than one option if you want to.

    Thank you :)

Will be answering "I don't have any of these problems" when that option becomes available :)

99.0% fine with my keyboard. just getting used to not having "delete" key above the backspace. It's over next to the "insert" key.

So far it seems like people have mixed feelings about the laptop, especially the keyboard lights. 3 doesn`t like it and 3 says it is ok.

And 5 out of 11 people have a flawless laptop without any of these problems.

Well the poll seems to be mostly about the keyboard, I wouldn't say they don't like that laptop itself, just the keyboard.

Yeah that is what I meant. :)
From the reviews and user opinions it seems that the keyboard is the main issue.

Thanks moho and Justin. :) Yeah this is probably golden information to the folks at MSI to see what we customers think of the laptop.

16 voters now, and some picture is starting to reveal itself. But give it a few weeks+ to come to a conclusion.

My keyboard is great. The only lighting issues I see are where it changes colors, but that seems that is normal and changes depending on your viewing anlges. IMO, if you have issues with keys not working that's one thing, but the lighting, maybe some people just need to get out a little more. ;)

Just by looking at the poll it's clear there is an issue with the keyboard. It's really not about the keys not lighting properly unless they're too bright since that would be distracting but about paying nearly 2k for a computer that doesn't work as advertised, it's the little things that make all the difference (otherwise why not just get a sager for less with out a backlit keyboard?).

Wow! This post was very helpful! As related to the GT780R ($1649.99) and the keyboard issue, if this poll is all you consider, YEP, it's clear..... run along and get yourself that Sager!

    __________________________________________________________

EDIT: And another thought, and I probably won't gain any favor here, but here goes.......

    Help me out folks!

I commend Cloudfire's efforts here, and everyone else who has tried to be helpful here....... but I am sorry, I fail to see the value in such polls, though they can be interesting. What bothers me here, is what is to stop these proceedings from being nothing more than a 'Troll magnet'? How can these polls be even remotely accurate, when ANYONE can poll here, even if they don't own, or have any experience with the notebook whatsoever?

To me it seems far more truthful and valuable, for the resellers and MSI to tally such statistical data....... based on units shipped, units sold, numbers of returns, and RMA's. As a matter of fact, it would make no business sense at all, if they were not doing this. I am sure MSI has a pretty good handle on the keyboard situation. Question is, will we ever see any of this data?

Furthermore, it's pretty common knowledge, that complaints most anywhere...... reviews, feedback, forum post, etc......... far out-weigh the 'kudos' given. Generally, most everyone with an issue will complain, but many of those satisfied, never post or utter a word.

Anyhow, I am not saying there can not be value here..... it's interesting, entertaining, or even amusing..... but I fail to see wherein this can be indicative, or representative to the actual situation. Resellers should be able to help us out here. They have solid sales numbers, complaint, and RMA data. Is the reseller data indicating anywhere near, what this poll is suggesting? I think not, but I am very curious!

Any reseller? Justin? Help us out here!

This is what I hate about humans. I am sorry Striker but you seem to come out very biased toward MSI.

I created this poll to see what the current status of the keyboard is and how users experience it. To find out what owners have said about it, you have to go through a thread with 100s of page. I think a poll give out a straight answer. Yes people can register to notebookreview and troll this poll. Shure. But is it any more valid to read a user review of it? Or a forum post about it? How do you know that he owns it?

Why can`t people buy a piece of hardware and be able to be critical about it? Everyone gets so defensive whenever something bad is written about their product. That goes for everything from Xbox to cars. :(
From the poll so far it seems that there is a lot of issues with the keyboard. Atleast for the light. 6 said they are OK with it. 6 said they are unhappy about it. For me that says a lot. 3 of those 6 with lightning issue also complain about other issues. I am not going to conclude yet, but wait a few more weeks for more users to chime in.

Again this is not a poll meant to attack owners of the GT780R. It is meant for interesting buyers to see what the keyboard is all about and maybe show the owners that they are not alone with these issues.

And for the record this poll was not meant to be negative but turned out to be anyway. That should tell you something Striker

Nah I don`t want a jet engine. The noise itself from Sager laptops is enough to turn me off

Oh, but you misunderstand Cloudfire. My 'EDIT' in that post was simply meant to make a point, and nothing disparaging or personal intended. Really, help me understand. I know your intent was meaningful, and I applaud you for it. I simply fail to see a polls value..... when there are no valid controls or peer group. In this case, wouldn't the poll need to be amongst Owners only?

The poll could be in regard any notebook or brand, and I would still have the same questions...... and still wonder if it provides an accurate view of the situation. Otherwise, what is the point, ya know?

I am sure your poll will continue, and you can still check it out in a couple weeks. It'll still be here! I am just not that sure you will be able to say the results are reliable or conclusive..... that's all.

And again, I think resellers could be helpful here, but I also understand if they don't.

Anyhow, sorry I made you hate me (humans)! :D

    :)

Heh, well maybe you're right about it being far too early to see the big picture based on only a handful of people voting in the poll, but to me it's clear that there seems to a pattern emerging. Though considering that like you said polls could mean nothing since they can be manipulated by having a person create multiple forum account so they can get multiple poll votes. Either way regarding Msi imo "negative" criticism is a lot more helpful in the long run than a smile and a tap on the back because it shows the possible problem and helps the company improve their products or at least gives them something to look into IF they chose to (most companies will ignore polls like these and look the other way).

If I came off like a huge Sager fanboy my comment was merely to those people who'll post "who cares about a backlit keyboard anyways?", the extra features on the Msi don't come "free" so why expect less? But I guess to each their own; If I got a laptop with a half lit keyboard I'd be disappointed too.

Btw in case you're curious, I got an asus... mainly because of the global warranty though the GT780R was my close second which is why I'm posting on the GT780R thread and not because I worship Sager and despise Msi.

Question: if you have a trackpad issue, have you tried turning off the side/bottom scroll areas? I've had nothing but trouble with those on other laptops.

I've seen 2 laptops with jumpy track pad problems. But I really don't think this is a hardware issue. As you mentioned Homer S, when I turned off the vertical and horizontal slider functions + 2 / 3 finger gesture moves, the trackpad function flawlessly (on both laptops).

It maybe just an issue of the software that needs to be perfected a bit more, or the user needs to spend some time configuring the software to suit their needs.

    My 2 cents.

The keyboard is not enough to deter me from buying this, but I do see quite a difference between the user's pictures, and the ones from MSI as well as the preproduction model. It's the first laptop that both my wife and I agree on. I will be checking into the tape solution to balance the light if needed. I will be ordering it in August after I see if the 570M is a possibility or not.

I gather from the poll that not everyone has the light distribution problem with the keyboard...

    So true...

    1) WIN key is to the right of the spacebar, not to the left (but i guess this is a gaming laptop with gaming keyboard, dont want your use of CTRL and ALT in games causing accidental touches of the WIN key jumping you out of your game)
    2) There is no context menu button (the button that SHOULD be where the WIN key is to the right of the spacebar)
    3) Print Screen, Scroll Lock and Pause get their own dedicated buttons, but Home and End are put as FN accessible. Um.....
    4) There is so much left-right space, I am surprised they didnt space out the keyboard and provide a full sized "0" key on the numpad (although the ASUS G74SX does this too).
    5) To go along with #4, if they spaced things out, they could provide little spacers between the CTRL and left arrow button, and more importantly spacers between ESC and F1, F4 and F5, F8 and F9 and F12 and Print Screen. So much of keyboard usage on a laptop is touch and feel. I am always having trouble finding the F5 button properly (I had an HP dv9500 before this and it was so easy to find F5 since there was a spacer between F4 and F5).
    6) What is up with the |\ key to the right of the spacebar? Asian character there before?

Just when I compare the GT870R to the Asus G74SX, I will live with the keyboard (Asus' keyboard looks like it has such a better layout!).
-9 cell battery vs 8 cell
    -720p webcam vs SD webcam
-4 speaker audio system with woofer vs 2 speaker
-5 speaker output vs 2 speaker
    -2 USB3 ports vs 1 USB3 ports
-5 total USB ports vs 4 total USB ports
-MSI is over 1 lb lighter
-MSI is longer (left-right), but is shorter (top down) and thinner
-matte screen vs glossy screen (I think the matte screen might be better...both for colors and angles)
    -MSI has an esata port
-MSI has a manual fan control button (whoa!)
