Gentlemen, I am looking for technical information why GK104 graphics chipset does not work on the GT780?
I know that it is guilty bios board but I would like to know specifically what's responsible
I want to take care of this problem but I'm looking for now information

Compatibility, something in the BIOS that cannot initialize the graphics correctly.
Normally, we can use a POST card on a PC to determine the hang code but it's difficult to do that on a NB.

Quadro K4100M (GK104) vbios 80.04.B0.00.08 but gives a picture hanging on the MSI logo

Quadro K4100M vbios 80.06.60.00.01 does not give an image

Maybe the problem is in vbios card?

You can ask Prema, but not sure if he will help because he usually works with Clevo, Alienware, Asus.

The root cause is still the BIOS, it's rarely needed to revise a VBIOS.

It's caused, by vbios i am sure. If it was identify as vga it would iniciate

The issue you're having can be caused by several factors based on odds.
    1. BIOS compatibility issue.
    2. Graphics card issue (faulty hardware?).
    3. H/W connectivity issue (incompatible electrical design?).
    4. VBIOS issue.

Running a non-approved component by MSI may not going to work, because if MSI has never tested such component then the BIOS isn't going to be compatible with the graphics card.
This is also the reason why sometimes with motherboard products (DIY computers), you may need to contact the MB manufacturer and possibly get a BIOS update to make it work in the past, for example, a storage controller add-on card causes a system to hang during boot thus a BIOS patch is needed to resolve the hang problem. Not to mention notebook systems are very closed systems as opposed to desktop DIY systems that are more open because of the need to support multiple vendors. This type of issues are not limited to storage controllers but also included graphics cards and memory modules.

If you do find a newer VBIOS update for the graphics card, make sure to create a backup for it first before flashing to the newer version. If it solves the issue you have then great otherwise it's going to be difficult to get it to work.

You dont have to tell us like we are newbies. Here maybe we are new, but in the other forums we well recognize bios and vbios flashing, using programmer or swapping hw.
It's not my laptop. I have msi 1 gen, without enduro/optimus and bios identify other cards as normal vga and installs driver in windows normally, I think most of cards works in it, no problem.

Sorry if you felt that way, but I am not treating you as a newbie. I was explaining a component qualification process by any manufacturer in order for something to work in their systems and this is nothing but facts.

For both optimus & non-optimus products, they can run into the same compatibility issue.

Let me know if you have any questions, thank you. :)

But I know most of you texted, but thanks for clarification the process. Yea, so I am not playing into enduro/optimus ground. It's just too shaky with compatibility and everything.
I have a question about bios - msi apparently locked out every system above 1gen (Gx740/640/660), with support for certain cards for example in 2gen kepler cards (or a part of it, because GTX765m and gtx770m are working), so I have a question - what they can applicate and what we can do to reverse engeenering it? We can also do it by writing proper vbios inti the card, but what would be proper vbios ?

They didn't really lock the cards out as MSI by far is the most open company, but it's because you are installing a newer generation product which wasn't available at the time of MS-1761's release until three years later.
So this has several things to discuss about.
    1. Manufacturer's support duration is limited, 1-year in this case.
    2. NB is a closed system which isn't advertised to allow consumers to perform any types of upgrades. Many companies even had seal label to prevent users to perform upgrades. Nowadays this has somewhat opened up but remember topic #1.
Unlike motherboard products, NB doesn't need too much resources on testing with foreign components therefore they work really well in terms of stability since there isn't much needs

So you should try graphics cards perhaps within that year or year after to get better odds.

Still you didn't answer my question - why earlier 1gen (Gx740 or gx660 or gx640) works no problem with newer cards?? Because this is strange... They shouldn't allow it if it was a lot of newer (card from 2013/4, notebook from 2010).

Why then mxm-slot? Maybe they should all integrate cards, because it's useless or only for msi programming engineer to write proper vbios/bios to allow the card to start and have proper callbacks to control fan and display image on display.
I don't want to be mean or unpleasent - it's just strange for me. Go for non-mxm integrating way and it will be more clear way. Because locking out, a 'free' standard is a little confusing. I know that it's done by all manufactures (even clevo), but in clevo there is prema, which is doing the hard work to get it work - and here we can only do some users done fixes to get it working

I can't really answer you this question because it's really luck here.
MSI has never tested these beforehand so if it works then great but if not then you can't really blame them though. There are forum users here who upgraded VGA card on their Optimus-enabled systems without issues so it has nothing to do with Optimus.

Maybe with optimus yes, but enduro is hw and vbios locked. I dont know, maybe even I have a card with optimus. Bios is really messing in other msi's, but we can't change the bios or program it by own. We can only change vbioses and some give results like with gtx 770m vbios from dell flashed to 765m and it worked in 2nd gen msi. Also clevo vbios works. Maybe @andrzejz78 try clevo vbios? Perhaps you try it out.

I can't blame msi for anything since it's out of warranty a long time

A lot of compatibility is caused because there are pins in the MXM GPU that have GPU info as far as I remember. Some of those pins were not use in very old gens (like the GX660R, for example) so they didn't care what GPU was inside, and you could put almost anything and somehow make it work.

But soon after with the development of optimus, enduro and more, those pins started to become relevant so they cause issues with the notebook BIOS. You might need not only proper vbios, but also BIOS so that the GPU is properly supported.

    Depends on each machine.
