GT75 Titan 8RF LAN connection clamped at 100Mbits need help

Hello,

I bought in December the laptop GT75 Titan 8RF-047FR and from the beginning my LAN connection is clamped to 100Mbits instead of operating at 1G.

I made the Windows updates, updated the drivers of the Aquantia Aqtion card in versions 2.1.12 and 2.1.16 but the problem remains.

I also changed the ethernet cable and tried other ports on my ISP router. I still have a sloppy connection while my other computers have a connection to 1G without any particular setting.

I forced the link speed to 1G but that does not change anything. Moreover with the Aquantia 2.1.12 and 2.1.16 drivers the connection fails completely if I force to 1G. I have to leave in Auto to connect but still at only 100Mbits max.
With the drivers available from MSI version 2.1.005.0, I can connect by forcing the link speed to 1G but the connection is always at 100Mbits max.

Do other users have this problem?
What is your connection speed in LAN?
Can you help me solve this problem because it's a big problem for me to have a slanted connection and on a gaming laptop it's a shame!

This is my link speed connected to a TP-Link Archer C5400X Router. I am using the Aquantia AQC107 LAN Driver 2.1.16 and didn't change a single setting bro. What is your router and are you on your router's latest firmware? Maybe it's your router

 

Router or the Cable. Cheap ass 2 pair "wannabe Ethernet" will cap you at 100.

 

1G bps or 1000Gbps .... it doesn't matter.
You will only get as fast as your service provider sells you!
What is your internet dl/up speed you pay for? Do a speed test, if is good and your getting what you paid for allis good.
I'm paying for 75Mbps dl speed, and I'm 79, just a bit faster ,,,,
Oh Wait .... I'm gunna cry cus it doesn't say I'm getting 1Gbps on the graph ... Boo Hoo Hoo.

I tried several cables cat5e and 6 and they are OK on others computers.
My FAI provides me up to 1G. On others computers the dl speed is 900Mbits/up is 300Mbits. On the MSI laptop the dl speed is 95Mbits/up is 94Mbits and the ethernet status is 100Mbits instead of 1G.
My router is the one provided by my FAI with 4 ethernet Giga ports. The firmware update of the router is auto. If I manually update it, nothing's new.
Perhaps there is a protocol incompatibilty between the router and the Aquantia card?
Do you think a bios update or firmware EC update on the MSI laptop could be a solution if the problem comes from my router?
Do you think I have to uninstall Killer Control Center?

 

NEVER install that virus on your computer or let it touch or throttle your bandwidth! that's the reason I never buy anything with Killer hardware in it! Horrible software and horrible driver support team they have! Just take a look at their drivers page and see how ancient they are compared to Intel's drivers

I downloaded the intel drivers you posted for Wireless and Bluetooth on the topic " MSI GT75 Titan Drivers (8th gen)". Not yet installed.
What do you think about bios update and EC firmware update for my problem? Could they be a solution to solve an incompatibility between my router ports 1G and Aquantia card? I don't find release notes about the new bios and ec firmware and I don't know which problem they could solve.
I don't understand very well the difference between bios and EC fw. If i update EC fw, have I to update bios necessarily and vice versa or could I update EC fw and not the bios?

 

Update BIOS first then EC

I don't know if it will solve your problem but at least it will eliminate one variable. Do it, the latest BIOS/EC is much better

Spoiler: MSI Laptop BIOS Updating Instructions

First, go into your BIOS and try to remember or write down all the settings that are currently in place, especially your boot mode if it was AHCI or RAID and any overclocking/undervolting settings you may or not have had.


1) Download the BIOS


2) Ensure that the ZIP file is NOT blocked by following this guide: "Are you sure you want to run this file?" [Yes or No]


3) Unzip the file which contains the BIOS and place it in the root of C:


4) Reboot and enter BIOS by spamming the DEL key


5) Go to the Advanced Tab


6) From the bottom, you will find UEFI BIOS Update, click that


7) You will now see a list of your partitions, keep choosing one after the other until you locate the partition which has the BIOS file, you will be able to recognize it easily by looking through the list of files and locating the BIOS file name


8) Click on it and proceed with the update, you will be prompted to reboot, do that when prompted.


9) The BIOS will start updating, during the process, DO NOT turn off your laptop under any circumstance even if it stays with a black screen for a long time, let it continue.


10) You will eventually see the MSI Logo followed by another reboot, wait for that reboot then spam the DEL Key to re-enter BIOS


11) Your BIOS will be reset to defaults at this point so make sure to reset everything back the way it was ensuring you select the proper boot method (ie. AHCI or RAID)

Spoiler: MSI EC Firmware Update Instructions

1) Download the EC Firmware


2) Ensure that the ZIP file is NOT blocked by following this guide: "Are you sure you want to run this file?" [Yes or No]


3) Unzip the file which contains the EC Firmware


4) Disable your Antivirus as it may interfere with the EC Firmware update process and might even result in bricking your laptop


5) Right click on ECWIN.BAT in the EC Firmware folder that you downloaded and choose Run as Administrator


6) Select Yes when asked if you want to proceed with the EC Firmware update


7) After the EC firmware update is complete, your laptop will shut down, remove the power cable and wait for 30 seconds


8) Power on your laptop, you should now have the updated EC firmware

 

I know if the router/switch is on 100mbit it wont matter. I have a 10G 24port and one of the ports throws errors over 1g. So it's set to 1gb.

I tested my LAN connection with Win10 1803 and 1809, without results. Always clamped at 100Mbits.
I'd prefer to stay with Win10 1803 and wait a little more before updating to 1809. Are all the drivers listed in the first page of the dedicated post "MSI GT75 Titan Drivers (8th gen)" compatible with this OS version 1803?
Which OS version 1803 or 1809 did you install for this laptop?

 

Depends on what image your retailer had. I installed a fresh 1809 on mine.

I got rid of mine about 1 week into owning my GT75.
It was preventing my notebook from sleeping, was getting tones of error reports.
It's rebranded INTEL, the Killer Wireless-AC 1550 is just Intel's 9260 chip, using modded INTEL driver .... using generic Intel drivers works fine for me.

This is the reason I use LAN, I'm on optical service, and I'm getting just a bit more bandwidth than what I pay for.

 

My problem is solved.
It was a problem with the FAI router which was not new and efficient enough. All LAN ports on the router worked well in 1G (tested) but the model of the router was not recent enough, it created a problem of compatibility or recognition of my network card.
Today, my FAI provided me a newer model of router, also with 1G ports and, miracle, the connection was immediately established at 1G.
I thank you all for your help because I was able to quickly eliminate software or drivers causes, and I could see that the network card worked well with other users.
This forum is really helpful.

 

Glad to hear your problem was solved and that the issue was identified at the router. It sometimes happens, when we realize we update our electronics but we tend to keep routers and switches for far longer, and eventually compatibility issues arise.
