So I bought myself a baseline model Titan 055 with the i7-8750H processor, 16 gigs of slower DDR4-2400 RAM and a slow M.2 SSD instead of the NVMe/PCIe drives that they offer in RAID. However since I'm still within my return period I was wondering if I should return this model and get my hands on the 090 model, the one with an i9-8950HK which in my understanding is unlocked and has higher base clocks.

My primary concern is how long the laptop will last. I hope for it to last for at least 5 years (yes, a bit long, but this i9 laptop is close to $4,000) and up until then I wish to see any AAA titles coming out during that time to run at max settings with good (60+) frame rate. I already know the GTX 1080 will last me for that long but the concern is the CPU, which in my case the 8750H that has low base clocks and is locked.

Adding on to the previous point, thermals are also of concern. The 8750H in my unit runs at fairly decent temperatures (around 70 degrees C whilst heavy gaming) but I'm also getting lower frame rates than my previous 7820HK (overlocked to 4.3 GHZ, but at 85-95 degrees C). From the reviews I've read on this forum the GT75 seems to have the best heat management and I'm wondering if that cooling system can keep an i9 running at good temperatures. Keep in mind that I have no intention of opening the laptop but I can tinker around with voltages to keep temperatures in check.

I purchased the 8RG, running it in a stock configuration, I set the cooling to advanced and run it a bit cooler.
The Dragon Center allows for core and vram offset in 'Turbo Mode', I haven't touched it.

SoD2 in ULTRA online, a solid 60FPS, no throttling or frame drops, runs the CPU @ 55°C and GPU @ 65°C average temp.
If all the games I own run at this FPS rate in ULTRA or HIGH, I'm happy and don't need to mess around with the settings any further, set it and forget it.
Cooling is more than adequate, better than the GT73, and the real wold gaming performance is not noticeable between the I7 and I9.
As for the GPU, if it runs all the games @ 60FPS without any issue, there really isn't anything for me to complain abut.

As for the slower 2400 ram, depending on the CL it will be faster than 2666.
Here is a partially completed list of the latency speed of the various DDR4 RAM available.
I highlighted the 5 most common DDR4 available.
