    Hi everyone,

I'm hoping that you can help, as I'm having a lot of problems with the brightness of my new MSI laptop's screen. In brief, it seems too bright even on the lowest brightness setting I can pick in MSI True Colour, and the colours seem oversaturated and too vibrant even on the lowest brightness setting.

To explain further, I have severe light sensitivity/photophobia and also suffer from migraines. Because of this I wear tinted glasses when using a computer, and also tend to use the lowest brightness setting available.

I'm also both a gamer and a professional writer, so my computer is pretty essential both to my work and leisure time.

For nearly 6 years I used an “XMG P722 (Clevo P370EM/Sager NP9370)” from MySN, but it unfortunately failed recently, and as others in my family have had good experiences with MSI I decided to go with them (as an off the shelf model would be cheaper and quicker than going with something that had to be built for me.)

    I went with the “MSI GT73EVR Titan 17" 120Hz Full HD GTX 1070 G-SYNC Gaming Laptop” from Scan.co.uk: https://www.scan.co.uk/products/173-msi-gt73evr-7re-titan-850-120hz-fhd-g-sync-i7-7820hk16gb-ddr4-512gb-m2-nvme-ssdplus1tb-hdd-8gb-g

I've had it about a week, but every time I use it I'm having these problems, even worse in the evenings. Even on the lowest brightness settings available in MSI True Colour I'm still finding things too bright. Areas of white or colours seem especially bright even on the lowest brightness setting, and also seem over saturated or overly vibrant (at least I think that's how to describe it.) Colours also seem “off,” if that makes sense, so I can be looking at something that looked fine on my old computer and it just doesn't look right on this one.

For example on these forums the orange used for the “Post New Thread” button seems way too orange to me (if that makes sense) and is painfully bright to look at even on lowest screen brightness.

Another example would be the large areas of red and white on the BBC News site when viewed on the 17” screen, here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news

With my XMG P722 I could play Total War: Rome 2, write in Open Office or read the BBC News Site for hours without having a problem, while with this MSI I'm finding my eyes and head hurting after even short periods, and the extended period it took me to set up my new computer was enough to leave me bed-bound with a migraine the next day.

Even as I type this I feel like I'm staring into a bright light, while at the same time like I'm straining my eyes in some way.

Between the MSI Truecolour and the Nvidia Control Panel there seem to be loads of different options to change, for everything from brightness, contrast and gamma, to red, green and blue, to digital vibrancy and hue (whatever they mean,)

So I guess what I'm looking for is advice on what settings I can can try changing to make this more comfortable to use, or whether this is a problem more likely to be connected to the hardware itself, and so something I can't just “fix” by tweaking a setting.

As I explained earlier, not having a computer, or having a computer I can only use for short spells at a time really isn't an option for me, so I really need to know within the next few days, as if it's a problem I can't solve I'm going to need to try and return this computer for a refund and get something else.

So any help you can please provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    All the Best,

    Union Jack.
