    Hello guys and gals,

I was looking into SSD/HDD capabilities for the Dominator I saw the laptops with the super raid adapter but mine came with a steel plate and a sticky pad :( so I'm looking to buy one since I have m.2 laying around I want to put it in for extra storage I don't care for 1300MB/s but it would be nice to have more storage and decent speeds and possible later on add another HDD. So the question is does anyone know where I can buy one? I've searched on ebay all I see are the shorter m.2 adapters but i'm looking for the longer one. This thread here

    >> http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...tor-pro-gtx-880m-owners-lounge.757541/page-45 << has photos of it.

Any help would be appreciated thank you in advance!

Unfortunately MSI decided to bestow the GT72S features in the new GT73VR, and make the GT72VR a mere shadow of the previous GT72S.

The GT72VR doesn't have the CM236 motherboard chipset, it has the less featured HM170, which reduces the available PCIe lanes to barely enough to support ports and 1 M.2 drive, instead of 4 previously.

The GT72VR also doesn't have the MUX switch to allow switching between the dGPU high performance on AC and iGPU for long battery life.

If you can, you might want to consider taking back the GT72VR and getting a nice GT73VR, there are 1070, 1080, and 1070 SLI models. The GT73VR oddly gives up the ODD slot, no DVD / BD.

If you want to stick with the GT72VR, you could try RAID'ing the M.2 / 2.5" drive - get the same make / model in both fittings, if you try it please come back let us know.

The HM170 description mentions RAID support, hopefully the BIOS breaks it out for use.

    Good luck :)

Thanks for the quick reply it's no biggie not worth the extra $600 but if I didn't want it to run in raid can I use the adapter just to expand storage? I'm a newb to PC gaming.

Not enough PCIe lanes, no wiring to match it's function as well. Nowhere to plug it in :)

Time is now you can get really big single M.2 and single 2.5", at least you've got that going for you.

And, look around for sales, you should be able to get the GT73VR for a delta between $150 and $300 during the seasonal sales, look for the thin on RAM / Storage models.

AFAIK they are only RAID0 in BIOS / hardware.
