Like title says. I tried playing max payne, but the movie tells me I need to update my blue ray player. However my Optiarc BD ROmBC-5500s is already updated. I think it might be windvd8. Is anybody else having similar problems? If it helps any, I bought the comp at xotic pc and had them instal vista 64 bit os on my laptop.

    It's not the BC-5500A - it's WinDVD.

HP Notebooks, when they put BC-5500's into their systems, had a lot of problems because they were using WinDVD. Eventually, they replaced it with HP QuickPlay, which is a customized version of Cyberlink's PowerDVD software, designed to work specifically on HP systems.

Last year, when the newer BD games and movies started coming out, users (myself included) starting getting errors not long after the movie or game started to play. Usually the error message stated that the drive's firmware needed to be updated. Problem was though, that HP didn't upload a firmware fix, and you can't use a generic firmware update from the OEM supplier (Sony). HP fixed the problem with a QuickPlay update, and after that the BD problems went away.

My point - WinDVD has never been a good program for BD playback. My daughter's ASUS has it, and even I've never been able to get her BD-ROM to playback properly - and I do this stuff for a living.

First see if there's a WinDVD update that you might have missed, and check the MSI Support site for any support releases. If it's happened to you, I guarantee you're not the only one.

You might also want to check over at the forums on Blu-Ray.com. I used to help out people over there quite a bit who had problems with HP systems. Haven't been there in a while, but there's a lot of good info there, especially on WinDVD issues.

Ya I was afraid that it was windvd. I checked and they don't have an update for windvd8. They wanted me to buy windvd9 lol! Thanks for the help though. Is there any way I could get quick play?
