I have the Dual core UK version of the GT725, and I am running into issues trying to oc the 4850, whenever I try to set the clocks higher than 500/850 they set back to 300/300. I have been able to do this a while ago when i first got the laptop so I am not sure if this is a software issue ( running latest drivers mobility modded) or a hardware issue?
Id be grateful for any help.

Hey single, welcome to the forums buddy,
First of all, it seems a bit funny, but have you checked your in high performance?
Also check your catalyst control center to see if powerplay is set to *Max battery*
If not then grab the tool HWMonitor from the site below and check your temperatures.
http://www.cpuid.com/download/hwmonitor/HWMonitor_115_setup.exe
Run it, and it should be straight forward. -
It need to be plugged-in if you want to OC
EDIT : Cata is quicker than me
2 : It also downclock itself in normal usage ,web browsing and so on.Attached Files:

I currently run my 725 permanently plugged with the battery out, I am on High performance in windows. HWmon is showing about 55 degrees atm. Thank you for the help so far and thank you for welcoming me to the forums.

Ahh ok, haha your probably more awake then me Dead, i'm shattered bud
How are you seing that it downclocks to 300/300?
But yeah, like dead says, the card throttles down in normal circumstances to save power/heat/lifetime. -
I set the clock to 550/900 which i know I have run them at before click apply in CCC and it sets to 300/300. I did think of the auto down clocking but then I check my fps in a few games and its noticeably worse.

Occasionally you can get really light weight cards that just reject overclocking, does the machine like to run at the normal clocks nicely?
Have you tried just pushing say either 10 mhz to one thing (Core or memory?)
Just to see if you can get anything more out of it?
I would be more help but unfortunately i can barely keep my eyes open lol. -
You been to the pub or something ?
What driver are you using ? is it 10.1 ? If that's the case I recommend that you go back to 9.12
There's some compatibility issues with 10.1 using MM. -
Don't worry about it I really appreciate the help, seems even a 10mhz increase has the same effects.
I am going to reset everything to its defaults give it a clean with some compressed air tomorrow. I've been playing with bios settings some Im wondering if I've done something it does not like.
On a side note Dead2th3worldq I have seen a q9200 on ebay, Did you install your's yourself or was it part of the setup when you bought the laptop? If you installed it yourself was it easy? I've been reading the OC guide and I wanna have a go myself. -
It makes no sense :S, any other software on your system that you have tried? Could potentially lock the clock in perhaps?
Also your idle temperature seems fine, if you are happy running furmark test, you can see your temperature while burning the gpu (And i don't mean literally) if it gets to abnormal heat load then you can just hit escape and it will close, if you like i will link furmark test? -
Installed it myself , it's as easy as changing some ram sticks. Apparently Intel not gonna release it so what's available on eBay is only ES (engineering sample).
The only "downsides" is that you can't OC it whilst using MSI's BIOS, you need to flash it to the 1722 barebone BIOS to be able to use setfsb and so on. -
I have updated to the latest bios and it seems to play quite happily now!? Does flashing to the 1722 bios have any downsides?
-
It will remove certain features like memory timings and turbo functionality.
TBH that thing doesn't need to be OC'd.
E: you probably messed up the bios settings that's why it wasn't working. Just loading the defaults would have done it. -
You'll have to check what speeds its getting while you are in game.
