Hi all, might be needing to purchase a new laptop shortly.
Looking at NCIX in Canada, they have both these models in stock. The GT70 @ 1499 and the GT72 @ 1629.
Is it worth it to spend the extra on the GT72?
Here are the specs for each.

One other thing - when watching a couple of youtube reviews, I watched the reviewer open the laptop from one side, and could very easily see the screen flex from the force of him opening it....is this an issue? Are the screens/bezels fragile???

    Thanks!

The GT72 have much better cooling as they use a dual fan system vs 1 on the GT70 plus you'll get the newer 5th Gen CPU.

I haven't noticed excessive or easy to flex screen. I've taken both apart for our video reviews and didn't notice it then either.

Definitely the GT72. It is a major improvement in the design of the GT series. Cooling is much better and you can upgrade the GPU officially.

Also I think all the new GT72 series with broadwell have IPS screens. Maybe someone can confirm this.

Confirmed: GT72 with Broadwell do have IPS screens, and G-Sync too.

I love my GT70, but if I was making a purchase today I would likely go for the GT72. The IPS G-sync display, Broadwell Cpu and better cooling are great selling points for the GT72. There is nothing wrong with the GT70 if you want to save a few bucks. I like the that the GT70 has optimus, a socketed CPU, great display for a TN, and is probably the most comfortable notebook I have ever used.

Since the GT72 has retained the MXM upgradability there is not much reason to stay with the older model if possible.

If you can afford it go with GT72.

I've owned both machines. The GT72 blows the GT70 out of the water.

    Reasons:

    1. Much less cheap plastic in the construction.
    2. Dual fan design, runs much cooler and way quieter
    3. Proper PSU function, so gaming doesn't use Hybrid Power and drain your battery
    4. Even better speakers, somehow
    5. NO OPTIMUS (could be #1 for me lol), manual switching means you can do things like custom resolutions, LCD overclocking, and downsampling
    6. MSI promises upgradeability to the next generation of MXM GPUs.
    7. IPS displays
    8. Other things I can't think of now

I thought the GT70 was the best laptop I'd ever owned, but the GT72 came in and made an incredible impression. It's truly an evolution, not just an update.
