    Hi there,

I'm looking at upgrading the RAM in my GT70. It currently has a single 8GB stick in it and I'm looking at getting a second.

I've looked at videos and it seems getting to the ram slots under the keyboard seems quite difficult to get to. If I install a stick on the bottom side of the motherboard will it still run in dual channel?

    Details:
    Mobo: MS-1763 REV:0.C
CPU-Z states the current stick is in slot 2

Yes it will run dual channel but installing it in the open slot on the bottom. Just make sure to get the same speed and CL if you can.

Just to clarify, the current stick is currently installed under the keyboard. I seem to have left that out.

Is it still true that it will run in dual channel if I install it in a slot on the bottom?

Yes, I did it just so. I wasn't confident but made sure that the SIMMs were on odd/even slots meaning 2 under kb and 3 in the bottom. Runs in dual channel.

I've run into a potential problem here. I saw from CPU-Z that my RAM is kingston so I've looked at getting another kingston module. But it appears I have 11-11-11-28 installed at the moment (picture here and the only other kingston ram I can find I believe is 11-11-11-35 seen here.

Would these two modules run properly in dual channel or should I be looking at other modules?

Get rather identical figures, the brand is not so important I think; mine are A-Data and Lenovo.

Thanks so much for your replies. If it's better to mis-match brand but keep the same CL & tRAS timing I'll definitely go with that option.

I've seen G.Skill and Corsair RAM that run at the same timings (11-11-11-28) but I'll await for a reply from someone who knows for sure before I pull the trigger.

Successfully upgraded with a different brand but same timings. Works in dual channel just fine.
