After running the latest updates from Windows Update my computer just stays on with the screen off after restarting or shutting down. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Have you tried rolling back the updates?

Nope, I installed everything at once and haven't had time to mess with it. I was just hoping it would be a quick and easy fix but it doesn't seem that it is the case. Do you know how to reset the CMOS on these units by any chance?

It's difficult to perform CMOS reset on the NBs, and the outcome will most likely to be the same.
This could be possibly a software-related issue.

What I find strange is that the "Fast Startup" option is no longer present. I wonder if the updated actually removed any files or other settings from my system.

You reset the cmos by taking off the back cover, disconnecting the battery connector near the fan, ensuring the main battery and ac are not connected.

I've uninstalled the updates, reset CMOS and uninstalled any apps that may affect the start up/shut down procedures and nothing helps. I also checked event viewer and nothing related to start up/shut down is displayed. At this point I'm just going to refresh Windows and see if that helps. If I'm still having issues I will just reinstall.

It's recommended to do a reset instead of refresh.

    Which is basically a re-install.

Well that solved the issue for me.
