Having a hard time decide because I've never had a laptop before. I don't plan to be mobile too much, but everywhere I do plan to take the laptop like to work, lanning at a friends, or school will have a table. Have a big backpack to hold the laptop. But was wondering, is the 17" GT70 really as massive as people state it is? I'm just worried the 15" GT70 screen isn't big enough(no first-hand experience though).

Anyone with either size laptops that could chime in? I realize the GT70 itself is pretty bulky due to the hardware in it.

    Much appreciated!

I have the GT70, and it is big, but its not so exorbitantly big that I am unable to take it anywhere. My brother has a GT683 15.6 inch and I can tell you first hand that 1080p...at leats for me on a 15.6 inch screen is pretty small.

Going from a 17in to a 15in, both 1080p I can definitely relate. The 15in will feel small, really small. If you've never really owned a 17in, the difference probably won't be noticeable.

For the OP, The differences between the GT60 and the GT70 are very minor. GT70 has a bigger screen and slightly better cooling because of the bigger chassis. The GT60 burns the battery less (15~20min more battery power) and iirc, it's also cheaper compared to a GT70 counterpart if you're going for the 2OD series.

Other than that, they are identical.

My advice go to bestbuy or something and compare 17" laptops to 15" laptops and see with your own eyes.
Personaly I like the smaller models for better portability and think the 15.6" screen is not small at all and I've had massive 17" laptops in the past.

Since the only difference is the screen then yeah, check out some different sized models. Might want to look at the weight too.

FHD on 15 inch will feel small because texts are in fact fairly small. You need to get used to it. Even then it might still feel too small at times. FHD is really recommended for 17 inch. Personally, I find 1600 x 900 on 15 inch the perfect size.

Edit: Here are size differences ranging from 10 inch to 17 inch. A collection of laptops I've purchased.

You can increase the DPI even on a 1080P screen. I have the 18.4 Alienware and going back and forth from the 18.4 to 15.6 does not hurt at all. Especially because I have increased the dpi to 125% and it looks amazing. If you need portability (you mentioned that you are going to your friends now and then), I totally recommend to go for the 15.6 inch size. Its a bit smaller and lighter too. Comparing with other machine in the store it will be a bit difficult, because it matters the weight and the frame, looks, thickness etc. etc. If you can see those 2 models in the store, then that's a totally different story!

    17 inch all the way.
I used mine for school. work and gaming. 15 inch is now to small for me, and I love the extra display space :)

Either way you'll love it! I have the 15.6" screen (GT60), only because it was cheaper than its 17" counterpart
