    what is biggest/fastest GPU one can put in the GT683r-242US?

    AFAIK that would be the GTX980M with either a modified heatsink or one from the latest GT60/70 (they have the thermal bridge between the CPU and GPU just so you are aware).

    would $550 shipped be a good deal for this model with out any hard drives? would it need a bigger power bricks fora gtx780m or gtx 980m? how much does an 980m or 780m cost?

    It needs a 180W brick, I can't really comment on prices as a reseller. Shop around for the 980M ;)
