I just received my laptop, and am wondering if anyone can give me feedback. I've used it a few days now, and while I love almost everything about it, I am very disappointed with how loud the fan is, even while the laptop is idle or doing small things like running Word or when I'm just browsing online. The fan is always on, of course louder while gaming or using heavy resources, but this is the only laptop I've ever used that isn't quiet while idle. I was hoping other users could tell me if they notice the same thing, or if there is a program I could use to change fan usage or such. Otherwise, I'm thinking of returning, and I really don't want to do that. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

My gx660 gets loud but is no problem i usually wear headphones to.

I would not worry as long as you have the latest drivers everything should be fine :).

How about doing a video on youtube ?

Mine only gets really loud when under a really heavy load, or I push the button along the top to increase the fan speed. Otherwise, it's not really louder than any other laptop that I've owned.

Monitor your CPU clocks with CPU-Z and GPU clocks with GPU-Z.

See if they stay at their highest settings.

Impossible to have a bad paste job very rare what this sounds like is something he is running idle like vlc or wmp player which make your gpu work its off like crazy some aps actually do this so finding the culprit can be annoying.

But again temps should be fine my gx660 stays at 50c at 11.4 drivers have not pasted it for 5 months waiting till december to do it or might sell it for my new Asus G74.

Remember, also, that noise is a relative thing. What is very loud to one person, may be perceived as not-as-loud to another.

In my research of this rig, I've found a couple reviews that talk about the high noise level of it in relation to other higher-end gaming laptops.

    Here's one...
MSI GT680R review (Intel Core i7 2630QM Sandy Bridge, Nvidia GeForce GTX 460M) | Gaming on Laptops - Notebooks, PC gaming and more

Here's another, though this is for the GX660R. While it certainly has different hardware (no Sandy-bridge for example), from what I've read, it is the same chassis, and will likely generate similar levels of noise.

Review MSI GX660R Gaming Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews

I can't speak for any personal experience with this machine, but I hope this helps some.

I just received my GT680R over the weekend and the machine is ultra-quiet to me. As Moho said, it's a relative thing for each person...but I've had a lot of laptops and this one is quiet to my ears.

Hopefully you can isolate whatever is causing your problem. My machine has been stellar so far...

    Hi guys,

So I found this interesting post..
I've got my GT680R since April 2011, and for the first day, I found this little diamond too noisy.

C'mon, the fan is just all the time at max speed : wwuuuuuuuuuub...wuuuuuuuuuuuub...wuuuuuuuuuuub < this is actually the fan noise..

I'm tired of this, fortunately I've got a good headset but I cant bring this computer to my school : I have already twice expelled from an amphitheater cause of the fan noise (ya rly. )

I pray every day to founding a solution, I'd search everywhere, no way, no fan control, no tweak software...

Is this a fabrication mistake or the fan rly need to be that noise ?

I joined a video for you to see what is THE AWESOME NOISE : http://youtu.be/w9yp8MlkvKo

    Thanks for your answers,
hopping that there is a solution for my problem.

PS : Sorry for my bad english, from France.

Check temperatures on vga card and on cpu. If it is ok than cpu fan need to be replaced. Also there could be a problem with temp sensor on mainboard :(.

ok, I have this probleme since I have this laptop, my temps are ok, I just put 2go of ram in it.
I think its from the cpu fan, its awkward to see that people who bought the laptop the same month (april 2011) have the same problem ! ;)

This issue is only in your notebook. I have never seen this issue so probably fan damaged or mainboard.

erf, I opened the computer and didnt see any issues about fan.
Do anyone know how to solve the problem ? (or just limit the fan speed, with a software ?)
