    GT62VR 6RE Dominator Pro Constant Crashes | nvlddmkm (4101) | nvspcaps64.exe (or application)blocked

I have this laptop for 2months now. 1st month, great no issues.

But on the 2nd month, I randomly experiencing this crashes while gaming. (NBA 2K17 to be exact, only game I play a lot)
Then few more days it keeps on happening and happening, and now, I get the crash like 8/10 I play.
    In the event viewer,
"Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." Event ID 4101
    In my notifications,
"Application (NBA2K17.exe or nvspcaps64.exe) has been blocked from accessing Graphics Hardware"

Those two are the main things I find causing the crash.

I get the 8/10 crash more if i manually turn on the built in cooling fan.
If I don't turn it on while I play, I get like 5/10 crashes.

I researched of course, but man, I already did a lot.
Reinstall the game, the tdrdelay thing, old version of nvdia driver, lower core and memory clock, but still keeps on happening.
Only I did not do so far is reinstalling windows, which I read doesn't help.

    Anyone had the same problem?
Can you guys please share on how you solved this.
This problem is covered by the warranty right?
    {But I don't want to return my laptop, got nothing to use. :(((( }

Did you do a clean install of the drivers or use DDU to remove any leftover bits from the old one?

yes. I did use DDU, but upon checking the installation directory, there's still the leftovers of the newer driver, which I thought is going to be deleted by DDU. Can I delete them manually?

I don't use DDU anymore, just select custom installation and check off the clean installation box. I haven't had any driver issues lately. Maybe try another game for a session or two to see if it's just that game.

yep, okay. last game I played Resident Evil7, played for about 40 minutes, no issues, didn't crash.
    I'll try other games.
It's just that when I read other people with this issue, they have different games they play. So I'm assuming it is not the game we play.

It's a PITA to try to find out what is happening, I have stopped upgrading drivers unless I have time to rollback. When I bought RE7 I had crashes which had me updating the drivers, they fixed RE7 and didn't cause problems with BF1, the only games I'm playing at the moment,so I was happy but others had issues so you just have to roll with them I guess.

So, I reinstalled the game, NBA2k17. But originally, I installed the game at my SSD where the crashes happen. (my laptop has 2 harddrives, 1-120gb ssd and 1-1TB hdd)
But now, I reinstalled the game in the HDD, no crashes!
Maybe this could help others, but what the?! Crashes because I installed the game at my SSD?? Whew.
Will be monitoring, but I already played for many sessions and no crashes!

Interesting, that's a great discovery, but how do you know it wasn't just the re install that fixed the crashes instead of being on another drive?

I would get some apps and test the health of the SSD, just to make sure its not failing.

I tried reinstalling the game in the SSD, crashes happen. so there..

I just installed NBA2k17 in my SSD because its the main game I play. Game loads faster. But I'll live with a few secs of wait now to not experience the crashes.
I don't know what tests i could do with my SSD. it's a 120gb ssd anyway, I won't be installing much there. Just the windows.

I guess if a game wasn't set up for a fast SSD then it could cause an issue, ti;s a good find.

How much available space did you have on your 120GB? Windows keeps a good portion of drive space for recovery files and updates and there may have just not been enough space to load any games on your SSD.

Games shouldn't have any issues with SSD.
Have you removed the game and try reinstalling it?

I had similar issues with my GT62VR. I read multiple posts on multiple forums with users having the same problem. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like MSI has a fix for the problem themselves, as many people have sent their units in for RMA only to have them come back exactly as they were- still crashing in games.

The underlying issue seems to lie with GPU Boost 3.0. Its suppose to seamlessly adjust the voltage and bump the clocks within a certain max TDP, but for some reason, on the laptop version, the bios changes made to keep the cards within a more limited power envelope, screwed everything up. When the clocks hit up over ~1850, most people find their system unstable, and the driver crashes. Some have tried using Afterburner to downclock -150 with some success. Personally, I found using vbios 86.04.5B.00.8A fixed everything. Its from the GT73, but the card is the exact same. This bios eliminates the Tier 3 boost, such that the card only runs at the default clock (1442Mhz) with boost to 1645Mhz. No more bursts over 2Ghz.

The beauty is though, it can still be overclocked in Afterburner. I'm currently running +225, and in game, my card boosts to 1860Mhz - and tends to stay there longer. Before my card was all over the place, and when it didn't crash, was mostly settling around 1750-1775. My TimeSpy and Firestrike benchmarks are essentially unchanged, so overall, this seems to be the best fix for now.
