Is it available in the States yet? What about Canada?

What's the price (with corresponding currency)?

Nope, not available yet in North America. It'll probably arrive within December for the coming holidays. Look at this Canadian store that sells MSI laptops:

Phew, I thought the first few posts where form this year and I was like "whoa, waiting another year for the new lineup?"

Yeah, those prices are looking really nice :D Hopefully other resellers will start coming around to selling this.

Very great price, I'm telling you is there a single overpriced MSI? MSI has to be and will be a great seller this year with the economy in the dumps :D good luck to them

Yeah MSI really is a good buying option. Wish more resellers would start picking their new models up though :D

Well now I'm more interested in any comparisons between MSI GT627 and Asus G50VT. In terms of main specs, they're pretty much the same, so I want to know how they compare when it comes to unique features.

Keyboard layouts, for one thing, I think the MSI did it better because the used the full width of the laptop and managed to put in a 4-column numpad instead of G50VT's 3-column numpad.

The numpad is done right, but having both laptops (Well, the GX620 uses the same chassis as the GT627), I prefer the G50's keyboard. The biggest problem with the MSI's keyboard is the shrunken (,),(.),(/) and right shift key. The first three keys are not a big deal, but I really don't like the small right shift key. I will accidentally hit the up arrow key at times and it can be frustrating.

Trust me, you'll get used to the smaller '/', '.', and ',' keys. I did NOT notice that the SHIFT key was at all smaller, and the layout of the MSI keyboard's numeric pad looks superior to that of ASUS. Additionally IIRC the ASUS keyboard is missing a couple of keys maybe the PG UP & DN, not sure but I know it was missing some. (They double up the ARROW keys + FN key for some of that functionality, like on Apple's notebooks.)

The other thing that people complained about was that the FN key is on the outside of the keyboard with the CTRL key right next to it. On the G50VT the two keys are swapped, with the CTRL on the outside edge, and the FN key right next to it.

Didn't look at p. 1 (and can't remember if I may have already mentioned it), but the higher end model 1680x1050 + Blu Ray DVD +/- RW is $1399 pre-order @ Amazon. Might be slightly cheaper at some other smaller vendors if you pay "cash". (You WANT the larger screen. 1280x800 WILL be awkward on a 15.4" screen.)

The GT627 is significantly smaller and lighter than the G50VT as well, but it only has a single hdd bay, and will likely not be able to take a much more powerful GPU due to thermal concerns and power usage. The CPU is, apparently, ATM limited to dual core socket P CPUs only(this was discussed in another thread), likely for the same reasons that you wouldn't likely be able to go anywhere with a new GPU (heat/power).

No idea whether or nott the Asus G50 chasses used their messed up "proprietary" MXM slots or not(they reverse the electrical lines layout IIRC on some models), but the CPU is socketable, and given the size I'd expect it to be more upgradeable but I haven't read or followed it much as given it's size I'd prefer to go with a MSI GT725 17" model which still comes out lighter and not all that much larger than the GT627 (~1" in length, o.w. about the same but slightly heavier, and has 9cell battery cheaper model is also $50 less than high end 627 but lacks Blu Ray(no loss to me)).

Availability, given whats been bandied about for the GT725, I'd hazard a guess of next week or maybe the 1st or 2nd week of February.

    @Inferno
That's why I decided to not go with another GX620/1651, the prices aren't dropping much considering that newer/much better models will be available shortly.

They're still rockin' the flipped MXM connector.

Yeah, I wouldn't either especially with the GT627 just on the horizon.

! I had been thinking of just ordering that newegg G50VT, but that inverted MXM is annoying as if I ever consider attempting an upgrade I'll be severely limited by that. (I wonder if any company ever made a little adapter to flip the MXM electrical layout back to normal...)

Also been re-looking at the other Radeon MSI nb, the GT735 w/a 3850, and it's thread reported 3DMark06 scores aren't that good v. the desktop model.
(not sure of 735 test, but I'm assuming 1280x1024 no AA/AF)
    GT 735: ~6000

Extremetech review 1280x1024 no AA/AF: ~10000 (Core 2 quad though)

Still trying to find an AMD platform desktop bench, and a review that has BOTH the 3850 & 4850. The 735 bench just isn't that much higher than the GX620/1651 to be worth it (9600M GT).

But, I guess with my budget, and the Asus MXM thing, I'm back to GT627 or GT735 (dimensions on paper are so close that they don't seem to be worth bothering to consider any longer...). (I kind of did like the Express Gate thing for maybe low power mail/web browsing, and possibilities of the OLED display, but the MXM plus the useless LEDs just kind of put the final nail in the Asus deal, well, an plus I didn't like the look of their keyboard layout from the photos.)

I don’t think frosty got them in stock they are not being honest instead of saying pre order they are giving you 3 week shipping time and if it’s not release till than you will get refund or some excuse that they sold out or something and cant ship etc.

I know this is a new release (being released yesterday haha) but what sites could I customize this laptop at?

I'm yet to look into it, but I heard frostycomputers lets you customize.. I'm wondering what else is out there though. Thanks.

I still haven't decided which to buy yet, the 725 or the 627. If the 725 doesn't show up soon, I'll probably go for the high end 627.

As to review, I've got no digital camera, so it'd have to be all text... besides others will likely receive one long before I decide and order.

Frosty's review: sucks as usual with INCORRECT specs! That guy NEEDS to get his act together!
