Sorry if this has been discussed before, as I tried searching but it is hard searching thru over 100 pages of stuff. Has anyone tried a mobility HD4850 fro the GT725 into a GT627, will it work and fit ?? I would think that since the 9800M GS and the HD4850 are about the same in wattage approx. 60-65watts, that the cooling should be the same and that both should be MXM III. Thanks for any info. God Bless :)

Basicly it is possible. But the heatsinks are diferent. If you can find the heatsink and ofcource the card :)
By the way - so many people start similar threads. Where are those HD 4850 cards? I want one.

So basically it is possible. Are the heat sinks really different ?? Has anyone actually confirmed they are different ?? I would have thought they would be the same as both the 9800M GS and HD4850 being about the same wattage. Again thanks for any info and insight. God Bless :)

Probably fi you sent TRF Inferno a free 627 he'd probably do it for you, or maybe even a 627 + mobility 4850to be returned plus a little cash he'd do it...

He already swapped about a million cards in his 1651s...

So anyone from Frosty Computers or RK Computers try this ?? You know take a HD4850 from the GT725 and try it in the GT627 ??? I am guessing it should work and that the heatsink in the GT627 should work fine as the HD4850 is supposedly rated at 45-65watts and the 9800M GS is rated at 60watts and both cards should be MXM III. Inquiring minds want to know. :D God Bless :)

If somebody sends me GT725 I'll try it with mine :)
Or even better - If I had both - GT726 and GT627 I'll do a complete review and all the possibilities about the GPUs :D
    I wish, right? :D :D :D

Anything is possible but pretty sure that ATI/AMD GPU's have different screw holes than Nvidia GPU's to line up for installation,(for the most part) but that is easily overcome with some creative thinking and probably some modding of your laptop.
it depends on what path you want to take, but it would be a awesome factory installed option.

I'm guessing he's referring to the bottom frame that houses the screw pillars for the heatsink. Technically the screw placements will be the same for all MXM-III and MXM-IV cards, but that harness will be specific for the heatsink for that system.

Yes, thank you ichime that's what I was trying to say, It would be great if you can just swap out any GPU and upgrade it with whatever GPU you want, but in reality it never quit works out that way.
But it would be awesome if it did work.

Yeah, dreams... The think I hate the most - Economics (or their convince to the world that it makes world better..., acctualy it does, but only for 3% of the people on the world) will always be agains unifing the things (doesn't matter what thing we are talking about - electronics, car parts, etc.) - this will reduce the earnings of many companies, so ... what to say... this will never happen :) Just have to live with it :D
