Which would you guys recommend for Audio-Video Editing considering that:

1 I'm going to be plugging in an external monitor(s) for the footage

2 The quality of the sound

3 I'm not interested in gaming at all

    Thanks

If you are about to plug in monitor(s) ona daily basis or have plugged in several other devices i would consider a machine with docking capabilities. As you are not interested in any gaming i would steer you in the direction of dell lattitude series, hp elitebook 8570p or thinkpad t series. And if you need gpu power it might be worth to take a look into workstation counterparts of those same machines. Going tru dell or hp outlet you can make big savings.

As for sound quality. I wouldnt expect it from any notebook. At least not for sound editing.

The sound on the gt60/70 might be the best of any laptop out, definitely better than anything I've been around. There's three different monitor connections, and they all come out of the back of the machine. Major plus for me, I HATE cables, especially when they're hanging out of side of a machine.

You said you're not interested in gaming though, seems like a major waste of money. You could get a 1000 dollar asus with the ips screen, sufficient audio system, backlit keyboard and it would do everything you need. Don't get me wrong, I love my gt70, jus sayin....

You can always get a USB 3.0 port replicator + a T440p or a business-class laptop that is ISV certified.

Depending on how serious/hardware intensive your video editing will be, you can get by on a much more affordable machine, with or without dedicated graphics. As for the audio editing, your best bet is to accessorize your laptop with external audio sources, as even the Dynaudio speakers on the MSIs - although good for what they are - are not ideal for editing purposes.

Thanks for the feedback. I've decided I'm going to plug in an external sound card, but I would like a dedicated NVIDIA graphics card on board.

Any suggestions for specific machines ?

    Once again, thanks.
